AVM Productions is an Indian film production studio. It is the oldest surviving studio in India. The filming studios are located in Vadapalani, Chennai. It has produced over 170 films in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Bollywood cinema. AVM has introduced numerous actors in the Tamil and Telugu film industries, some of the prominent actors are Vyjayanthimala, Sivaji Ganesan, S. S. Rajendran and Kamal Haasan. The AVM Studios besides the shooting floors, has recording, dubbing and a preview theatre with state of the art equipment. The complex also houses facilities for production and post production processing.

Mohini is the daughter of Sivashankaralingeswara Prasad, who marries Durgamma following Mohini's mother's death. Durgamma's brother Murthy wants to marry Mohini. Meanwhile, Mohini falls in love with Ashok, who is none other than her neighbour Pati, but she is not aware of that. When Murthy asks Prasad for Mohini's hand in marriage, he is refused by Mohini. An angry Murthy goes to the village and spends some time with Lakshmi and leaves her. When Lakshmi becomes pregnant, she comes to the city in search of Murthy. Before she can find Murthy, she gives birth to a boy in the hospital. She meets Murthy and requests him to accept her and the child. But Murthy refuses so she leaves the child in Pati's car, and goes to the sea to commit suicide. In the meantime, Murthy plans to cancel Mohini's marriage to Pati by using the child. Due to his claim that the child is Pati's and Lakshmi's, the marriage is cancelled. The rest of the story is about how Pati faces problems from Murthy, and how he reunites with Mohini.

Murthi (S. V. Sahasranamam) comes to a village. He deceives Meenakshi (M. S. Draupadi) and has sex with her. After going back to his home town he tries to marry Mohana (Vyjayanthimala), who loves Nathan (T. R, Ramachandran). Lakshmi discovers she is pregnant and goes to meet Murthi, who pretends ignorance. She jumps into the sea in a suicide attempt. A passerby saves her and she delivers the baby. She leaves the baby with Nathan. He takes care of the baby and faces a lot of problems. Learning about the baby, Mohana gets suspicious. Finally the actions of Murthi are exposed and he accepts Meenakshi as his wife.

Venkat (Varun Sandesh) is care free guy, he is a smart youngster who looks for people around him who are in love, he blackmail to tell their family and takes money from the couples. Meanwhile his grandma gets hurt and he takes her to a hospital, an old woman is admitted in the same room, later he finds out she is Madhumita's grandma (Rama Prabha). He gets an opportunity to impress her, he pretends to save her grandma and they both become good friends. Venkat's close friend (Adarsh) confesses him that he is in love with the daughter of Madhumita's father (Giri Babu). He thinks that his friend is going to be engaged to Madhumita. This prompts Venkat to play a spoilsport in the engagement ceremony, he tries to break the engagement and also succeeds in beaking the engagement. Soon after the engagement breaks he realised that his friend is in love with Madhumita's sister and was getting engaged to her. Venkat is shocked and is in a fixed situation as he can't tell the truth to Madhumita and her family as they would hate him after knowing the truth. He gets close to her family in meantime, also Madhumita falls in love with him. In temple she overhears Venkat's friend telling him that it was a good plan to break Adarsh and Madumita's sister's engagement. Venkat sees Madhumita and tries to explain to her that it was an misunderstanding but she was not ready to listen. Venkat then become a responsible person and joins his brother's office, he respects lovers and understands other's feeling. He also manages to get Adarsh and Madhumita's sister together in meantime. He then goes to Madhumita and explains to her and try to convince her that everything was a misunderstanding, he tells her that he is changed person and has got a good job for her. She understand's him and his feeling's, the film ends with Venkat and Madhumita getting together.

Sivaji (Rajinikanth), an Indian software systems architect, returns to India from the United States. He aims to establish a non-profit trust called the Sivaji Foundation to build a network of hospitals and educational institutions to serve the poor free of charge. However, Adiseshan (Suman), an influential businessman, sees Sivaji as his competitor with the fact of the matter being that he runs profit-making educational institutions and hospitals. Sivaji is forced to bribe the corrupt civil service, but eventually, the bribes demanded become so high that he has to mortgage his house and sell his car to pay them. When Sivaji goes to court, he loses the case filed against him by Adiseshan regarding the methods Sivaji had used to open his foundation as a result of bribing numerous government officials. Simultaneously, Sivaji falls in love with a girl named Tamizhselvi (Shriya Saran). However, upon asking for his horoscope, an astrologer warns that their union will result in Sivaji's death. When Tamizhselvi refuses the proposal due to her concern for Sivaji, he calms her fears and convinces her to marry him.

Teja (Kalabhavan Mani) is a high-profile gangster in North Madras, who often imitates the behaviour characteristic of different animals for sarcastic effect. Accompanied by his gang, he arrives at a magistrate's court for a hearing. His animal antics are mocked at by "Chintai" Jeeva, another accused. Teja and his gang retaliate and kill Jeeva within the court premises. Jeeva was a member of a rival gang headed by Gemini (Vikram), an aspiring goon from Chintadripet who aspires to dethrone Teja and take his place. To avenge Jeeva's death, Gemini hunts down the murderer Pandian while Isaac, one of Gemini's men, kills him. This incident leads to a feud between Gemini and Teja, and a fight for supremacy ensues. Pandian's mother Annamma (Manorama), a destitute woman, locates the whereabouts of her son's murderers. She approaches Gemini, becomes the gang's cook and awaits a chance to poison them.
