Makkal En Pakkam (English: People On My Side) is a 1987 Tamil film directed by Karthik Raghunath. The film stars Sathyaraj in the lead role and also stars Ambika playing the female lead. This film is a remake of Malayalam movie Rajavinte Makan.

Synopsis
Samraj(Sathyaraj)and rajmohan (Rajesh) are good friends who got separated due to a false theft accusation on Samraj. Rajmohan becomes a great political leader whereas Samraj becomes a great smuggler. With Rajmohan's political influence, Samraj smuggling business was affected. Radha(Ambika),Rajmohan's girlfriend works as a junior assistant for his friend who hands an important file to her. The file contains details on Samurai's illegal business. On knowing this Samraj tries to retrieve the file, only to get Radha in trouble. When Samraj realizes that Radha is in trouble he tries to help her and consecutively falls in love with her. Radha let's Samraj know that she already has a child born to Rajmohan and that affair was unofficial.Actors

Somu (Rahman) is an advertising photographer who exclusively works with female models. His family is a very modern family. His elder brother Balu (Nizhalgal Ravi) falls in love with his friend Maala (Ramya Krishnan), a modern woman, and he discloses it to Somu. They finally get married. Thereafter, the entire family searches a bride for Somu. In turn, Somu gets married with Sumathi (Sukanya) who is from a conservative strict family. Sumathi becomes a suspicious wife and she finds irritating her husband family's behaviours. What transpires later forms the crux of the story.

The story starts off with Vasanthi (Ambika) and Dr. Anand's (Rajesh) marriage. On their wedding night Vasanthi attempts suicide and is saved by Dr. Anand. He then inquires about her past. Vasanthi tells him of her failed love affair with Palakkad Madhavan (Bhagyaraj). Palakkad Madhavan is a poor, naive, honest, aspiring music director with a huge family back home to support. His assistant Gopi is a kid wise beyond his age who has the knack of surviving in a big town. They move into an upper portion of the house where Vasanthi lives with her grandfather, mother, sister and a disabled brother. Initially Vasanthi sympathizes with Madhavan's unfortunate financial situation but eventually falls for his naive innocence and integrity in spite of his difficulties. Madhavan initially refuses Vasanthi's advances fearing her family and his financial inability to support her but eventually accepts her love.

Selvanayakam a.k.a. Selvam (Kamal Haasan) is a poor but hard-working fisherman who is in love with Bhagyam (Sujatha) from the same fishing hamlet. After a tiff with the locals, Selvam moves to a neighbouring village for fishing and is feared dead during a cyclone. Selvam returns alive after a while and unable to find Bhagyam, marries another woman.
