Turn of the Tide (1935) is a British drama film directed by Norman Walker and starring John Garrick, Geraldine Fitzgerald, and Wilfrid Lawson, and was the first feature film made by J. Arthur Rank.

The film is set in a North Yorkshire fishing village, and relates the rivalry between two fishing families. The actors included John Garrick, Geraldine Fitzgerald, Wilfrid Lawson speak in the local accent. The work is based on the novel Three Fevers by Leo Walmsley.

Celia Crowson (Roc) and her family go on holiday to the south coast of England in the summer of 1939. Soon afterwards the Second World War breaks out and Celia's father (Moore Marriott) joins what was to become the Home Guard and her more confident sister Phyllis (Joy Shelton) joins the Auxiliary Territorial Service. Fearing her father's disapproval if she moves away from home, Celia hesitates about joining up but eventually her call-up papers arrive. Hoping to join the WAAF or one of the other services, Celia instead gets posted to a factory making aircraft components, where she meets her co-workers, including her Welsh room-mate Gwen Price (Megs Jenkins) and the vain upper middle class Jennifer Knowles (Anne Crawford). Knowles dislikes the work they have to do at the factory, causing friction with their supervisor Charlie Forbes (Eric Portman) which eventually blossoms into a verbally combative romance.

Lafayette (Gérard Depardieu) est un jeune électricien qui vit à New York, mais il n’en fréquente que trois repères : le Musée de Cire de la Rome Antique, de Flaxman (James Coco) où il travaille, un petit théâtre géré par des féministes, son appartement en sous-sol infesté de rats. Un matin, il remarque dans la rue des individus vêtus de combinaisons blanches, il prend peur alors que ce ne sont que des dératisateurs. Au théâtre, les femmes préparent un spectacle dans lequel il est question du viol d’un homme. Lafayette, mal à l’aise durant ces répétitions, provoque quelque peu les comédiennes qui décident de le violer réellement. Cet acte de violence est accompli par Angélica (Gail Lawrence) qui par ailleurs est amoureuse de lui.
