Synopsis
The film begins with the murder of a scientist. The superintendent of police Veeramani (Prem Menon) finally catches the culprit. During the enquiry, the culprit Gautham (Babloo Prithiveeraj) reveals everything. Gautham was in fact a talented sprinter but jobless, he needed money for his father's surgery. So Shaktiman (Prakash) hired him to kill the scientist. Shaktiman is the leader of a terrorist group and he is also a fake swamy. In the meantime, the journalist Rakeswari (Yuvarani) falls in love with Veeramani. The rest of the film is a cat-and-mouse game between Shaktiman and Veeramani.Actors

Kalicharan (Rajinikanth) lives a poor lifestyle with his widowed mother. He falls in love with a girl called Sumathi (Sheeba Akashdeep), but because of his poor background Suman's wealthy father, Mukesh (Nagesh), is not ready to accept him. Kalicharan also gets into hot water with Mukesh as he opposes his men who were planning to demolish some huts. Mukesh and his partner (Jaiganesh) devise a plan to kill Kalicharan by tricking him into believing that he was going to marry him to Suman. The plan works and they eventually succeed in killing him. Kalicharan's spirit goes to the underworld and meets the Lord of Death himself, Yamadharma Raja (Vinu Chakravarthy). Kalicharan explains Yama the whole ordeal and that his death was a mistake, so Yama transports him back to an identical body of a mild-mannered villager, Balwant Balu, whose life is threatened by his paternal uncle and aunt, who are trying to kill him.

Teja (Kalabhavan Mani) is a high-profile gangster in North Madras, who often imitates the behaviour characteristic of different animals for sarcastic effect. Accompanied by his gang, he arrives at a magistrate's court for a hearing. His animal antics are mocked at by "Chintai" Jeeva, another accused. Teja and his gang retaliate and kill Jeeva within the court premises. Jeeva was a member of a rival gang headed by Gemini (Vikram), an aspiring goon from Chintadripet who aspires to dethrone Teja and take his place. To avenge Jeeva's death, Gemini hunts down the murderer Pandian while Isaac, one of Gemini's men, kills him. This incident leads to a feud between Gemini and Teja, and a fight for supremacy ensues. Pandian's mother Annamma (Manorama), a destitute woman, locates the whereabouts of her son's murderers. She approaches Gemini, becomes the gang's cook and awaits a chance to poison them.

Siluvai (Vijay) is the son of Cruz (Vinu Chakravarthy). They are Christians living in a fishing village. In another town, Perumaal (Jaiganesh) is the father to Sangeetha (Suvalakshmi) and Gauri. Sangheeta comes to the small fishing village. Raghuvaran is proposed (and later engaged) to marry her.
