Andrew Macdonald (born 1966) is a Scottish film producer, best known for his collaborations with screenwriter John Hodge and director Danny Boyle, including Shallow Grave (1994), Trainspotting (1996) and 28 Days Later (2002).
Together with Duncan Kenworthy, he is also the founder of DNA Films, the production company responsible for The Parole Officer (2001), 28 Days Later (2002), Sunshine (2007), 28 Weeks Later (2007), 28 Months Later (TBA). Two of which Danny Boyle Directed and Alex Garland wrote.
He is the brother of Oscar winning documentary maker Kevin Macdonald. His maternal grandparents were English actress Wendy Orme and Hungarian-born Oscar winning filmmaker Emeric Pressburger.

During the original outbreak of the Rage Virus, Don, his wife Alice, and four other survivors hide in a barricaded cottage on the outskirts of London. They hear a terrified boy pounding at their door, and let him in. A few minutes later, they discover that the infected have followed the boy to them. The infected attack and kill most of the survivors, while Don, Alice, and the boy are chased upstairs. Don is separated from Alice and when the boy is seen hiding in the closet. Alice rushes to get the boy, while Don tells her to just leave him. Soon the infected break into the room and after Alice pleading with Don to "help us", he decides to leave, abandoning them. Don desperately sprints to a nearby motorboat and narrowly escapes.

The film starts in Afghanistan where an APC is on patrol while the passengers, are nervous as to whether they will still be alive ("Sky Takes the Soul"), before an ambush happens. Some time later Davy and Ally, two recently discharged British Army servicemen, return to their homes and families in Edinburgh after a tour in Afghanistan ("I'm on my Way"). Ally returns to his girlfriend Liz, a nurse who is Davy's sister. On Davy and Ally's first night home Liz introduces Davy to her English friend and colleague Yvonne at a pub, where Liz and Yvonne take part in some drunken story telling, a Scottish tradition ("Over and Done With"). The film begins with on-screen captions explaining that a medical breakthrough in 1952 has permitted the human lifespan to be extended beyond 100 years. It is narrated by 28-year-old Kathy H (Carey Mulligan) as she reminisces about her childhood at a boarding school called Hailsham, as well as her adult life after leaving the school. The first act of the film depicts the young Kathy (Izzy Meikle-Small), along with her friends Tommy (Charlie Rowe) and Ruth (Ella Purnell), spending their childhood at Hailsham in the late 1970s. The students are encouraged to create artwork, and their best work gets into The Gallery run by a mysterious woman known only as Madame (Nathalie Richard). One day, a new teacher, Miss Lucy (Sally Hawkins) quietly informs the students of their fate; they are destined to be organ donors and will die, or "complete", in their early adulthood. Shortly afterward she is sacked by the headmistress (Charlotte Rampling) for her revelation. As time passes, Kathy falls in love with Tommy, but Ruth and Tommy begin a relationship and stay together throughout the rest of their time at Hailsham.
