If you like this film, let us know!

Cinerama Adventure is a 2002 documentary about the history of the Cinerama widescreen film process. It tells the story of the widescreen process' evolution, from a primitive multi-screen pyramid process to a Vitarama format that played a big part in World War II, to the three-screen panoramic process it eventually became. The film includes interviews with surviving cast and crew who personally worked on the Cinerama films, plus vintage interviews with late creator Fred Waller.

To simulate the Cinerama experience for The Cinerama Adventure, a special three-panel telecine process termed SmileBox (a registered trade mark of C.A. Productions), was developed by video and film expert Greg Kimble for use in this film; it was later utilized for TV broadcasts and Blu-ray releases of Cinerama-formatted films such as This is Cinerama and How the West Was Won.

It was written, produced, directed, edited and narrated by David Strohmaier; produced by Randy Gitsch; executive produced by David's wife, Carin-Anne Strohmaier; and was presented in association with the American Society of Cinematographers. The running time is 97 minutes.

In 2008, the documentary was released as an extra feature on the DVD and Blu-ray releases of the movie How the West Was Won by Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc.

The documentary mainly focuses on the connection between events in the United States during the last century and the attraction that horror films have to moviegoing audiences. Filmmakers, producers, and historians such as John Carpenter, George A. Romero, Tom McLoughlin, and Mick Garris examine and give their opinions on such links between occurring events and horror movie themes. The discussion first begins with the connections found between World War I and films featuring human-like monsters and ideas, such as Dracula, Frankenstein, and The Seventh Victim. The topic then moves on to World War II and the Holocaust, and the widespread atomic paranoia associated with B movies of the 1950s like Tarantula and Creature with the Atom Brain.

The film follows real-time stories of actors, directors and cinema viewers in four different countries. In Tunisia, a documentary film director struggles to have his frank film about human sexuality be seen in their conservative culture. In India, a young actress struggles with the challenges of making a name for herself while dealing with racist barriers. And in Scotland, actress Tilda Swinton and filmmaker Mark Cousins, create a film festival that travels to audiences rather than having the audiences come to the festival. These stories jump back and forth as the narratives develop, interspersed with scenes from video stores, projection booths and homes of all kinds. Toward the end of film there are brief commentaries by Indian film director Sudhir Mishra and Chinese director Fruit Chan.
