Les Figures de l'ombre (Hidden Figures) est un drame biographique américain coécrit, coproduit et réalisé par Theodore Melfi, sorti en 2016.
Il s'agit de l'adaptation du livre intitulé Hidden Figures de Margot Lee Shetterly mettant en scène les calculatrices afro-américaines Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan et Mary Jackson qui ont contribué aux programmes aéronautiques et spatiaux de la National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). Le film montre comment Katherine Johnson en arrive à calculer les trajectoires du programme Mercury et de la mission Apollo 11 vers la Lune en 1969, comment Dorothy Vaughan devient responsable du département de calculs informatiques et Mary Jackson la première Afro-Américaine ingénieure en aéronautique.
Synopsis
Dans les années 1920, les parents de Katherine Coleman apprennent que leur fille possède un don pour les sciences, qu'elle doit parfaire en fréquentant une école pour Noirs (les Blancs étant dans des écoles séparées) car elle est dotée d'aptitudes intellectuelles supérieures. En 1962, devenue mathématicienne, Katherine Coleman (désormais Goble) travaille au sein d'un groupe de calculatrices humaines, sur le campus ouest du Centre de recherche Langley à Hampton, en Virginie, aux États-Unis, avec deux amies et collègues : l'aspirante ingénieure Mary Jackson et la superviseure d'équipe Dorothy Vaughan. À la suite du lancement réussi de Spoutnik 1, Al Harrison, directeur du Space Task Group, exige encore plus d'efforts de la part des employés sous sa supervision, de crainte que les Soviétiques ne mettent en orbite une bombe H pouvant exploser au-dessus du sol américain. Goble est envoyée dans son groupe pour vérifier les calculs, devenant la première Afro-Américaine à participer à ce groupe de recherche. Au début, elle est ignorée de ses collègues blancs et doit travailler à partir de données partiellement masquées (Goble n'ayant pas le niveau d'habilitation nécessaire) sous les ordres de Paul Stafford, un homme croyant en sa supériorité intellectuelle et refusant de reconnaître le travail de Katherine.Actors

In 1986, Eric "Eazy-E" Wright enters a crack-house to sell drugs, but, it is soon raided by the police, who gain entry into the house via a battering ram. Eazy escapes through the house's rear window. Later, Eazy goes to a club with Lorenzo "MC Ren" Patterson to see friends Andre "Dr. Dre" Young, O'Shea "Ice Cube" Jackson and Antoine "DJ Yella" Carraby, who perform the song "Gangsta Gangsta", while Eazy and Ren stand in the audience. After Dre leaves the club, he is arrested after breaking up a fight involving his brother, Tyree. Eazy bails him out the next day. The next morning, Dre talks to Eazy about investing money into a start-up record label, in order to record a track that Cube has written. Cube and Dre want rappers H.B.O.(Homeboys Only) to record the track. Eazy agrees to fund the project. After a conflict arises during the recording session, H.B.O. leaves and Dre convinces Eazy to perform the track. They record and release "Boyz-n-the-Hood". Jerry Heller approaches Eazy and asks if he can be their manager. The group accepts Heller's offer. While performing "Dopeman", they garner the attention of Bryan Turner, a producer at Priority Records, with which they sign. Afterwards, N.W.A commences recording their debut album, "Straight Outta Compton", with Heller. During one of the sessions, they are harassed by some police officers. Frustrated by the situation, Cube writes "Fuck tha Police".

In 1987, in Boise, ID football coach Jim White is chastising his players for an underwhelming half. Jim gets into a verbal altercation with one of the players, resulting in Jim throwing a football shoe with cleats at him. Following this incident, Jim is forced to move with his wife, Cheryl, and two daughters, Julie and Jamie. They settle down in McFarland, California, a predominantly Hispanic town. On their first night there, the family goes to a small restaurant and leaves to find a large gathering of Latinos in cars surrounding the place. One man makes suggestive motions toward Julie, prompting the family to leave faster.

The film begins on Halloween night 1939, revolving around the fate of five people - singer Carolyn Crosson, her boyfriend Gilbert London, child actress Sally Shine (who is modeled after child actress, Shirley Temple), her nanny Emeline Partridge, and bellhop Dewey Todd. In 2014, an attempt to counteract global warming through climate engineering results in an ice age that extinguishes all life except the inhabitants of the Snowpiercer, a massive train powered by a perpetual motion engine that travels a globe-spanning track, created by the transportation magnate Wilford. The film begins with an introductory sequence involving the main characters and images from space and introducing many of the film's visual leitmotifs. These are motifs of virtually still images revealing the key elements of the film: Justine the bride in deep melancholy with birds falling behind her; of a lawn with trees and sundial with two different shadows; Pieter Breughel's Hunters in the Snow (often used as interpretation of an idealised nostalgia) burning; the non existent 19th hole (limbo) and the Black Horse collapsing catastrophically in slow motion (Id, ego and super-ego battle); Justine as a bride being swept along by a river; and her being held back by her wedding dress; and finally Justine and her nephew building their magic cave before the Earth crashes into Melancholia becoming one.
