It stars Akshay Kumar, Preity Zinta, and Ashutosh Rana in the lead role. The film was said to be inspired by The Silence of the Lambs, an allegation Chandra denied.
Synopsis
A series of child abduction and murders have left the police force perplexed who are unable to solve the case. Hence the case is handed over to CBI, who designate trainee Reet Oberoi (Preity Zinta) to solve the case. After some investigation the evidence points towards Lajja Shankar Pandey (Ashutosh Rana), a religious fanatic who believes in the sacrifice of children to gain immortality. Pandey's erratic behaviour and Reet's traumas (as a child she witnesses her older brother, a terrorist, being gunned down by the police in their home) forces Reet to seek help from a prisoner, an unjustly implicated genius by the name Professor Aman Varma (Akshay Kumar).Actors

Sonia Sehgal and Naina Sehgal (both played by Kajol) are twins. The two are completely different from each other, Sonia being the tomboyish twin and Naina being the shy one. Meanwhile, the police are hunting for a cold-blooded, sadistic killer and rapist, Gokul Pandit (Ashutosh Rana). However tragedy strikes when Gokul rapes and brutally kills Sonia. After Police investigation, Gokul is caught, but is declared innocent as Sunanda, one of the main witnesses and Gokul's fiance gives false statement in court. Naina is distraught and vows to hunt down Gokul. Gokul soon goes after Naina and she realizes she needs help to overcome her fear of Gokul. With revenge in her mind she meets Suraj Singh Rathod (Sanjay Dutt), a blind military veteran and he helps her physically and mentally to defeat her fear of Gokul. While Suraj trains Naina they develop feelings for each other. After an argument, Suraj refuses to meet Naina and she decides to go after Gokul all by herself. One day Gokul kidnaps Naina's younger sister Dia from school in order to scare and warn Naina with what risk she is playing. That day Naina's mother decides to leave for Naintal immediately as her daughter's life is at risk. However Naina cannot control her hatred, and wanted to avenge her sister at any cost. Naina lays a trap for Gokul and tries to kill him but Gokul ties her up and tries to rape her like her sister. Suraj arrives at her house and fights Gokul but ends up being stabbed. Naina gets free and manages to shoot Gokul dead.

The film opens at in media res where street fighting issues are raised in Mumbai. Sports chairman Peter Braganza (Kiran Kumar) expresses his desires of making street fighting a legal sport and decides to open a league called Right 2 Fight (R2F). Meanwhile, in prison, Garson "Gary" Fernandes (Jackie Shroff), a recovering alcoholic, is released from his jail term and his younger foster son Monty (Sidharth Malhotra) comes to pick him up. Monty gets a bit enraged when his father asks about his elder son David (Akshay Kumar) and takes him away to their home. David, now a physics teacher, who has a daughter suffering from a kidney disease, arranges money through street fights. This enrages his wife Jenny (Jacqueline Fernandez) as she is worried about David. Meanwhile, Gary, who misses his wife Maria (Shefali Shah), starts hallucinating about her. Gary then tries to meet David but the latter ends up throwing Monty and Gary out of his house in rage.

Governor Jaisingh Sinha (Raj Babbar) is a popular and prominent political figure of the state, besides being well known as an upright person. One day, Gov. Sinha presides over a meeting on the issue of "Open Door Policy", a scheme which will pave the way for foreign companies to operate in India, by implementing usage of computer, industrial machinery etc. The meeting is attended by influential industrialist Meghnad Chaudhry (Dalip Tahil), Union leader Vilas Rao (Sharat Saxena) and minister Mantriji (Prem Chopra), among others. While Chaudhry is in favour of the policy because it would generate foreign investment in India, Vilas Rao strongly opposes the policy which would bring with it the unemployment of a large number of workers because of the utilization of computers and industrial machinery. The difference of opinion of Chaudhry and Vilas Rao leads to a heated argument between the two for which Gov. Sinha terminates the meeting without arriving at any decision on the policy.

A psychotic serial killer calling himself "Scorpio" (Andy Robinson) murders a young woman in a San Francisco swimming pool, using a high-powered rifle from a nearby rooftop. In the last two days of 1999, Los Angeles has become a dangerous war zone. As a group of criminals rob a Chinese restaurant, the event is recorded by a robber wearing a 'SQUID', or "Superconducting Quantum Interference Device", an illegal electronic device which records events directly from the wearer's cerebral cortex, and when played back through a MiniDisc-like device called a "deck", allow a user to experience the recorder's memories and physical sensations. Lenny Nero is a former LAPD officer turned black marketeer who deals in bootleg SQUID recordings. His main supplier, Tick (Richard Edson), tries to sell the robbery clip to him. Lenny eventually agrees to buy it at a reduced price, having to cut out the last part where the rig records the robber's death by falling; clips that record the wearer's death are known as "blackjack" (snuff) clips, because the experience is described as "jacking into the big black" by Tick.
