Sundays and Cybele is a 1962 French film directed by Serge Bourguignon. Its original French title is Les dimanches de Ville d'Avray (Sundays in Ville d'Avray), referring to the Ville-d'Avray suburb of Paris. The film tells the tragic story of a young orphan girl who is befriended by an innocent but emotionally disabled veteran of the French Indochina War. The film is based on a novel by Bernard Eschasseriaux, who collaborated on the screenplay.
Synopsis
Pierre suffers from amnesia after a war-time accident in which he might have killed a young Vietnamese girl while crash-landing his stricken plane. His nurse, Madeleine, lives with him in a low-key but potentially romantic relationship. When Pierre sees Cybèle, a young girl in distress as her obviously loveless father is dropping her off at an orphanage, he befriends her. Each of the two is lonely, childlike, and in need of a supportive friend. Eventually, he pretends to be the girl's father, which allows her to escape the locked orphanage for a day, and he shares every one of his Sundays with her for months.Actors

George Smith (Albert Finney) is a middle age San Francisco architect in mid-life crisis and dissatisfied with the extent of his professional career, as his latest project is nothing more than a warehouse. After he and his wife Alice (Yvette Mimieux) attend a large party they go home and reassess their lives. George remembers how he used to admire Pablo Picasso so much when he was in college and suddenly proposes to his wife that they go to Europe and find Picasso. As they travel through numerous places in France and Spain they meet a number of interesting people but George's obsessive quest begins to wear on Alice. They never actually find Picasso, and in a typical Hollywood ending, they walk off into the sunset after reaffirming their love for each other.

In a flashback, a single mother, Corrine Morgan-Thomas (Mary-Louise Parker) drives her seven-year-old twin boys Steven (Jake Cherry) and Philip (Jeremy Shada) to the doctor's office and learns that they have autism. Two mentally ill women who are clearly suffering from not otherwise specified delusional disorders, a mother and a (grown) daughter, live together in a secluded mansion. They are in a relationship and both are recognised for their beauty. They spend their days playing perverse BDSM-related incestuous games in memory of their sadistic patriarch who, when he was still alive, raped his daughter when she was eleven, murdered several servants, and is now a mummified corpse with which the daughter is shown having sex. They occasionally kill their servants and bury their bodies in the garden.
