The Other Side of the Mountain is a 1975 American film based on a true story of ski racing champion Jill Kinmont.
In early 1955, Kinmont was the national champion in slalom and was a top U.S. prospect for a medal in the 1956 Winter Olympics, a year away. She was paralyzed in a near-fatal downhill accident at the Snow Cup in Alta, Utah, weeks before her 19th birthday, leaving her quadriplegic. Jill Kinmont Boothe died in Carson City, Nevada, on Feb. 9, 2012.
The film was directed by Larry Peerce and stars Marilyn Hassett and Beau Bridges. It features the Oscar-nominated theme song "Richard's Window" (composed by Charles Fox, lyrics by Norman Gimbel), sung by Olivia Newton-John.
A sequel, The Other Side of the Mountain Part 2, was made in 1978.
Synopsis

Neil Klugman (Richard Benjamin) is an intelligent, working class army veteran and graduate of Rutgers University who works as a library clerk. It is Monday morning in the Bronx; two deadbeat punks: Joe Ferrante (Tony Musante) and Artie Connors (Martin Sheen) are causing trouble. Based on a true story, the movie is about a basketball player, Cory Weissman, who had a stroke in college. He scored 1000 points in high school and looked forward to success as a starting point guard. Basketball is his life but as a Freshman he has an AVM stroke paralyzing his left side. Cory has to cope with his disability and answer the question "why me?" Does everything happen for a reason or just fate? Despite the dire prognosis of his brain damage, the young athlete is optimistic of his recovery and return to basketball. Physical therapy is slow but with support of family, best friend, coach and teammates, Cory returns to Gettysburg College. Cory is allowed to dress and play in the last game his Senior year. To the joy of everyone, he scores one point and hence the title "1000 to 1". The young man and student found new meaning in his life both on and off the court.
