Janek (Gerhard Liebmann) is a brilliant researcher that arrives in the Swiss Alps to investigate global warming. He's part of a larger group, but savors his time alone as he's a loner by nature. One day the group discovers a glacier covered in a strange red liquid that has odd effects on the surrounding wildlife. Janek's group grows excited as they realize that the liquid is transforming the local wildlife into strange new genetic hybrids, but Janek himself is more wary of the liquid and the potential dangers it poses. His caution is soon proven to be warranted, as the group begins to fall prey to the hybrids created by the liquid. A new group soon appears to investigate the new discovery, and Janek is horrified when he finds that a former girlfriend of his is among the newcomers.

Franziska travaille dans la production de cinéma à Vienne et doit trouver le bon lieu de tournage pour une équipe de Bollywood. Michael, who has recently broken up with Gabi, visits her Berlin apartment to return her keys and hopefully save the relationship. He finds two plumbers there, and they do not know where she is. As Michael attempts to contact Gabi, a rage virus transforms people into bloodthirsty cannibals, and one of the plumbers attacks Michael. As Berlin falls into anarchy, Michael and the remaining workman, Harper, barricade themselves in the apartment complex and brace for an attack. They soon realize that the rage virus can be temporarily subdued by remaining calm or using sedatives. They also learn that the infected are photosensitive. The pair uses this weakness to attempt to make contact with the other inhabitants of the apartment complex. Michael, Harper, and Anita, a resident, attempt to break out of the apartment building and make their way to Gabi, whom Michael believes is in danger.

Olga is a Ukrainian woman from Eastern Ukraine, who lives with her mother and has a child. Her job as a nurse does not pay well enough for her to support herself and her baby, and she gets a second job doing internet pornography. She eventually leaves her homeland and travels to Vienna, Austria where she finds a job as a housekeeper at a rich family's home, where she also lives. However, the woman of the family suspects her of stealing and sacks her. She is then employed as a cleaner at a geriatric hospital. There, she strikes up a relationship with an elderly man named Erich and he asks her to marry him. She accepts, as she knows this will gain her Austrian citizenship. However, Erich dies of a heart attack before they can marry.
