Kevin Hal Reynolds (born January 17, 1952) is an American film director and screenwriter.
Il y rencontre Kevin Costner avec lequel il retravaillera quatre fois : Robin des Bois : Prince des voleurs, Rapa Nui, Waterworld et la série Hatfields and McCoys . Les tensions sur le tournage de ce dernier film mettent à mal l'amitié entre les deux hommes et Kevin Reynolds en quittera la production. Avec Robin des Bois : Prince des voleurs, son cinéma prendra pour certains une tournure plus commerciale. La tourmente médiatique et personnelle de Waterworld et les résultats en demi-teinte du film vont rendre la suite de sa carrière plus erratique. Avec 187 code meurtre il aborde le sous genre alors en vogue du film d'enseignant en milieu difficile. Puis il retourne au film en costume qui a fait son succès avec son Robin des Bois. Si La Vengeance de Monte-Cristo connait un résultat honorable au box-office américain, Tristan et Yseult met presque deux années à sortir pour connaître un échec en salle. Ce film fut l'occasion de reprendre un vieux projet que Ridley Scott devait réaliser après Les Duellistes, pour lequel Reynolds a beaucoup d'admiration. Il a d'ailleurs participé aux suppléments du DVD de ce film.

Biography
Après des études de droit et une brève carrière de juriste, Kevin Reynolds rejoint l'University of Texas d'Austin ainsi que l'University of Southern California pour suivre des cours de cinéma. Il écrit un scénario de thèse, Ten soldiers, qui deviendra L'Aube rouge, porté à l'écran en 1984 par John Milius. Kevin Reynolds reniera la vision du metteur en scène sur son script. In 1815 Edmond Dantès, second mate of a French trading ship, and his friend Fernand Mondego, a representative of the shipping company, head to the isle of Elba to seek medical attention for their ailing captain. Dantès and Mondego are chased by British Dragoons who believe they are spies for the exiled Napoleon Bonaparte. Bonaparte himself comes to their aid, stating that they are not his agents. As payment for using his physician, Bonaparte asks Dantès to deliver a letter to a certain Monsieur Clarion in France. The captain dies, however, and they leave Elba. On returning to France, Dantès is reprimanded by the ship's first mate, Danglars, for disobeying orders. However, the company's boss, Morrell, commends Dantès' bravery, promoting him to captain over Danglars, who is left fuming. Mondego intercepts Dantès' fiancée, Mercédès, and tries to seduce her. When he hears of Dantès' promotion, Mondego realizes that Dantès and Mercédès would soon be married.

Trevor Garfield is an African American high school science teacher at Roosevelt Whitney High School, a high school in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn. Dennis Broadway, a gangster student to whom he had given a failing grade threatens to murder him, writing the number 187 (the California police code for homicide used in many popular rap lyrics) on every page of one of Garfield's textbooks. The administration ignores the threat, and Dennis ambushes Garfield in the hallway, stabbing him in the back and side abdominal area multiple times with a shiv.

Robin of Locksley (Costner), an English nobleman who joined Richard the Lionheart, King of England in the Third Crusade, is imprisoned in Jerusalem along with his comrade Peter. After witnessing an amputation at the hand of the Ayyubid prison guards, Robin escapes, saving the life of a Moor named Azeem (Freeman) in the process, Robin, Peter and Azeem escape through a sewer and climb up into a alley but Peter is shot by an archer while escaping and has Robin swear to protect his sister Marian (Mastrantonio). Peter then grabs a scimitar and attacks an Ayyubid patrol giving Robin and Azeem enough time to to run down a small closed market. Azeem then grabs a fruit from one of the market stands and gives half of it to Robin and after nearly being spotted by a Ayyubid soldier and with the whole town on a lookout for them Robin and Azeem escape. Robin returns to England with Azeem, who has vowed to accompany him until the debt of saving his life is repaid.
