Pasqualino De Santis (24 April 1927 - 23 June 1996) was an Italian cinematographer.

Biography

Born at Fondi, he was the brother of film director Giuseppe De Santis. They worked together in Non c'è pace tra gli ulivi, Uomini e lupi (1956), La strada lunga un anno (1958) and La garçonnière (1960).

He collaborated with Francesco Rosi in C'era una volta (1967), Uomini contro (1970), Il caso Mattei (1972), Lucky Luciano (1974), Cristo si è fermato a Eboli (1979), Tre fratelli (1981), Carmen (1984), Cronaca di una morte annunciata (1987), Diario napoletano (1992) and La tregua (1996), filmed in Ucrany, where he died.

He worked with Luchino Visconti (La caduta degli dei, 1969; Death in Venice, 1971; Conversation piece, 1974; L'Innocente, 1976), Federico Fellini (Block notes di un regista, 1969), Joseph L. Although liberated on January 27, 1945, Levi did not reach Turin until October 19 of that year. After spending some time in a Soviet camp for former concentration camp inmates, he embarked on an arduous journey home in the company of Italian former prisoners of war from the Italian Army in Russia. While Jesus is preaching with his Apostles, the confessor John the Baptist is arrested by the king of Judea to the many defamatory sermons against the power of the monarchy. Herod, son of Herod the Great, imprisons John, and Princess Salome, daughter of Herod, without him being aware of it, secretly falls in love with John the Baptist. But it is a corrupt and lustful love, which comes from lying insults that John turns to the corrupt family of Herod. When Herod, in the birthday of his daughter, asks to Salome what gift she wants, Salome says she wants to see the severed head of John. Herod the content, and so Salome, when John is beheaded, performs the dance of the seven veils, and falls into sexual rapture, kissing full of the passion the mouth of the head. Herod, horrified, puts to death his daughter.

In a farmhouse in southern Italy, an old woman, the matriarch of an Italian family, dies. Her husband summons their three sons, each of whom are facing difficult personal problems, back to their farmhouse. One of their sons, Raffaele, is a judge living in Rome, who is presiding over a terrorism case for which he risks assassination, and is in fear of his life. Another son, Rocco, who lives in Naples, is religious and works as a counselor at a correctional institute for boys, so that he can fulfill his dream of helping troubled teenagers. The third son, Nicola, who lives in Turin, is a factory worker involved in a labour dispute as well as a failed marriage. Each of the men grieves in his own way, while also wrestling with the other emotional issues that are pressing on them.
