Patricia Ruth Plunkett (17 December 1926 – 13 October 1974) was an English actress.

Born in Streatham, London, she trained at RADA and had an early stage hit in Pick-Up Girl (1946) by the American dramatist Elsa Shelley.

Plunkett appeared in 12 films, in supporting roles. The best known of these is probably It Always Rains on Sunday (1947), in which her character, Doris Sandigate, is the step-daughter of Rose (Googie Withers), the leading role. Her husband was the actor Tim Turner (died 1987).

Harry and Christine Garland have a deaf daughter, Mandy. As they realise their daughter's situation, the parents enrol Mandy in special education classes to try to get her to speak. They quarrel in the process and their marriage comes under strain. There are also hints of a possible affair between Christine and Dick Searle, the headmaster of the school for the deaf where Mandy is enrolled. Eventually, the training succeeds to the point where Mandy says her own name for the first time. Mandy's speech was achieved by using a balloon. She was able to feel the vibrations of sound onto the balloon and knew she had made a sound.

Following a bitter row, writer Stephen Holt (Derek Farr) walks out on his wife Jan (Patricia Plunkett) and goes to drown his sorrows at a night Club. A drunken Steve ends up returning home with the club’s wily hostess, Grena (Joan Dowling). Just then Jan calls, and announces she’s returning that night to the flat. Steve attempts to get rid of Grena, but a fight ensues and he believes he’s killed her. He quickly hides the body in an ottoman. Downstairs, the suave and sinister landlord Matthew (Dennis Price) hears the disturbance and goes to investigate. Matthew suspects the edgy Steve is hiding something, and during the night continually taunts his tenant. Stephen eventually confesses, but rather than calling for the police the landlord blackmails his tenant for an extortionate rent, and reveal his long-held affection for his tenant's wife.

Promising writer Christopher Drew conceals his relationship with a murdered woman in order to protect his career, even though this results in an innocent man going to prison for the killing. The upper-class Drew decides he needs some first-hand experience to invigorate his work, so he explores the seedier areas of town in search of inspiration. Much to his dismay, he witnesses a murder but refuses to help an innocent man, Herbert Logan, arrested for the crime, because his presence in such a neighbourhood would cause a scandal. Logan is freed after serving 15 years in jail and he hears his "crime" detailed on a radio drama written by Drew, which enables him to gather enough evidence to finally clear his name.
