Sarita Joshi (nee Bhosle) (born 17 October 1941) is an Indian stage, television and film actress, and is a veteran actress of Gujarati theatre and Marathi theatre and also Marathi cinema. She is best known for her role as Godavari Thakkar in the hit Star Plus TV series Baa Bahoo Aur Baby.

In 1988, she was awarded the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for Acting in Gujarati by the Sangeet Natak Akademi, India's National Academy of Music, Dance & Drama.

Biography

Joshi was married to theatre director and playwright Praveen Joshi. She is the mother of actresses Ketki Dave who played the role of Daksha in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and of Purbi Joshi who appears on Comedy Circus as a host. Her niece is Manasi Joshi Roy and nephew is actor Sharman Joshi, children of theatre veteran Arvind Joshi.

Gangoobai (Sarita Joshi) is an elderly widowed maid servant in the small town of Matheran, working for an affluent family. She one day sees the daughter of the family wearing a Gara sari bought from a very posh store, Ardra. The sari mesmerizes her; she cannot sleep that night. She counts all her savings, and finding it short of the expected amount to buy a similar sari, she works hard for the next four years to save enough. She makes the trip to Mumbai to Ardra, which at that time is having financial difficulties, and there meets Daksha (Mita Vashisht), the manager, Waman Ponkshe (Purab Kohli), an accountant, Monisha (Nidhi Sunil), a model, the designer Rohan (Rajendranath Zutshi) and Jamshyd Mistry (Behram Rana), a rich elderly person. Whether she gets the sari she longs for and how their interactions with her impact their lives for ever are the rest of the story.

The beginning of the film is set in 1951 in a small village of Idar in Sabarkantha district, northern Gujarat, a young man named Gurukant "Guru" Desai (Abhishek Bachchan) dreams of making it big some day.
