Siqin Gaowa (ᠰᠡᠴᠡᠩᠭ᠋ᠣᠣᠠ, Mongolian Cyrillic Цэцэнгуа, born 19 January 1950), born Duan Anlin, is a Chinese actress with a Han Chinese father and a Mongolian mother. She was born in Guangzhou. Her father died early and she was brought up by her mother in Inner Mongolia. She is married to musician Chen Liangsheng (陈亮声) since 1986 and currently holds Swiss citizenship together with her husband.
Siqin Gaowa made her debut in the 1982 film Rickshaw Boy, an adaptation of Lao She's novel of the same title, where she played "Tigress", the love interest of Zhang Fengyi's character "Xiangzi". She won the Golden Rooster Award and Hundred Flowers Award for Best Actress that year.
In 1995, she was a member of the jury at the 45th Berlin International Film Festival.

The movie tells the stories of five pairs of lovers, each from a different period of their lives. All five couples, though different in age and circumstance, are somehow linked to one another. Their stories all demonstrate the imperfection of love. Designer Chen Feng (Chen) falls in love with Shen Yan (Tong Liya) at a friend's bachelor party, but finds that he might be too poor to sustain a relationship with her. Chen's boss (Wang Xuebing) cheats with alarming regularity on his dutiful wife (Yu Nan). Vengeful wife tries to cheat with her own employer (Leung), who in turns jets off to Greece for a decadent rendezvous with his mistress (Lau). Manager Hou is very wealthy, and he comes up with another idea to make money. He organized a weight loss tour which lets the fat man go to the tourist side of the Three Gorges River. There they can both go sightseeing and lose weight. He asks a beautiful girl, Jingjing, to be the leader, which attracts a lot of fat people. The guide QinQin gradually gets to know Hou's hypocrisy and cheating behavior, and stands up to protect the interests of customers. Hou finally admits his mistakes, and gets everyone's understanding. Finally, all members in the tour more or less lose weight, except Lydia from Hong Kong, who is still very fat and always keeps eating.

The film is set in Beijing during the Cultural Revolution. It is told from the perspective of Ma Xiaojun nicknamed Monkey (played by Xia Yu; some of Monkey's experiences mimic director Jiang's during the Revolution), who is a teenage boy at the time. Monkey and his friends are free to roam the streets of Beijing day and night because the Cultural Revolution has caused their parents and most adults to be either busy or away and school system was extremely nonfunctional during the Cultural Revolution. Jiang Wen cryptically suggested that famous movement during the Cultural revolution that most elder young people were sent to the countryside. China was actively preparing for military due to the Vietnam War and claiming USSR to be revisionism. Since monkey and his friends were military children, their parents were off for military purposes. Most of the story happens during one summer, so the main characters are even more free because there is no school. The events of that summer revolves around Monkey's dalliances with his roguish male friends, and his subsequent angst-filled crush with one of the female characters, Mi Lan (Ning Jing). However, Mi Lan falls in love with monkey's friend, Liu Yiku.

In 1950s, Chinese Civil War ends with the defeat of Republic of China and the establishment of Communist China. The 93rd Division's soldiers take their families with them, exit southwestern China and enter northern Burma (Myanmar). The hike through forest is full of disasters and short of supplies, but the survivors reach and settle within border of Burma. They build a village, and ally with local armed gang to resist Burmese government's attacks.
