Synopsis
Un policier noir lutte contre le racisme d'une ville du sud des États-Unis tout en enquêtant sur le meurtre de l'un des dirigeants du Ku Klux Klan Jerry Robinson, un officier de police noir, vient d'être muté dans une petite ville du sud des États-Unis. Sur place, il doit faire face au racisme ambiant. On lui fait clairement comprendre qu'il n'est pas du tout le bienvenu en raison de la couleur de sa peau. Un jour, l'un des dirigeants du Ku Klux Klan local est assassiné. Le supérieur hiérarchique de Jerry décide de lui confier l'affaire afin de le mettre à l'épreuve. Il lui adjoint l'aide d'Organski, un autre policier, pour éviter tout problème avec la population. Jerry parvient à retrouver un témoin oculaire de l'affaire : le propre fils de la victime. Mais des pressions se font sentir .Actors

A Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputy is shot down on Christmas Eve when he stumbles upon a robbery-homicide at a convenience store. A down-on-his-luck L.A. In 1960, Lorenzo Anello (Robert De Niro) is raising a family: he lives in the New York City Italian American neighborhood borough of The Bronx with his wife Rosina (Katherine Narducci), and his young son Calogero (Francis Capra), who takes a fascination with the local mobsters led by Sonny LoSpecchio (Chazz Palminteri). One day Calogero witnesses a murder committed by Sonny in defense of an assaulted friend in his neighborhood. When Calogero chooses to keep quiet when questioned by NYPD detectives, Sonny takes a liking to him and gives him the nickname "C". Sonny's men offer Lorenzo a better paying job. Lorenzo, preferring a law-abiding life as an MTA bus driver, politely declines. Sonny, however, befriends Calogero and introduces him to his crew. Calogero earns tips amounting to $600 working in the Mafia bar and throwing dice, and is admonished harshly by Lorenzo when he discovers it. Lorenzo speaks severely to Sonny, returns the money, and angrily warns him to keep away from Calogero.

In apartheid-era South Africa, Shack Twala (played by Sidney Poitier), a black revolutionary who had served time on Robben Island, is freed by Rina van Niekerk (Prunella Gee), his Afrikaner defence attorney, because he would be a victim of retroactive legislation. Rina, estranged from her husband Blane (Rutger Hauer), is having a relationship with an English mining engineer, Jim Keogh (Michael Caine), who has attended Shack's trial. Surprised by the verdict, Rina, Jim and Shack go off to celebrate at her house. They are stopped by the South African Police who are conducting identity document checks and arresting everyone who does not have their papers on them. As Shack has only just been released from prison he will not receive his papers until the next day. The police Constable and Shack antagonise each other leading to Shack being handcuffed and arrested. When Rina attempts to pull the Constable off Shack, the policeman hits her, knocking her to the ground. Jim assaults and knocks out the Constable making all three fugitives.

This film picks up the story 15 years after the events of the first film. Drum (Norton) has been born to a white prostitute (Vega), who raises him with her black lesbian lover (Kelly). Drum grows up to be a fighter and is often forced to bare-knuckle-box other slaves for the entertainment of the owners, one of whom is a gay Frenchman named Bernard DeMarigny (Colicos). DeMarigny wants to sleep with Drum, but his advances are rejected by the slave and DeMarigny vows revenge against Drum. Drum and his friend Blaise (Kotto) are eventually sold to plantation owner Hammond Maxwell (Oates) and are both taken to his plantation to work. Drum's girlfriend Regine (Grier) is purchased by Maxwell as well and is taken to the plantation for his own personal desires.
