Ruth Leuwerik (born 23 April 1924) is a German film actress. She appeared in 34 films between 1950 and 1977. Leuwerik is probably best known for her portrayal of Maria von Trapp in the films The Trapp Family and The Trapp Family in America. In the 1950s she and Dieter Borsche were considered as the ideal couple of the German film. In 1962 she starred in the Helmut Käutner film Redhead, which was entered into the 12th Berlin International Film Festival. She is a five-time Bambi award winner.

After undergoing cosmetic facial surgery, a mother (Susanne Wuest) comes back home to her modern, isolated lakeside house and her ten-year-old twins, Elias and Lukas (Elias and Lukas Schwarz). Her head is swathed in bandages, with only her eyes and mouth visible. The twins are unnerved with their mother's appearance and are further taken aback when she begins to exhibit strange behavior. She pointedly ignores Lukas and appears to only acknowledge Elias in conversation. Though it is the middle of summer, the mother orders the twins to keep the blinds closed during the day, imposes a strict rule of silence inside the house, and allows them to only play outdoors. The mother also acts cruel and lashes out at Elias physically when he displays mischievous or disobedient acts; something that the boys comment that their mother would never do.

1969. In a Vienna bookshop the Argentine chemist Rafaelo Aranda is poisoned by the bookseller Valerie Steinfeld. The bookseller commits suicide immediately afterwards. It seems the bookseller has never met him before. The chemist's son, Manuel Aranda, wants to find out the background of this murder. He finds out that his father has developed chemical weapons of mass destruction and offered to sell them to the United States, the Soviet Union and France. Berlin, 1931 : Au Marmorhaus, c'est la première de Die Privatsekretärin, avec la jeune Renate Müller dans le premier rôle. La presse l'attend, mais elle est trop nerveuse pour apparaître. Elle tente de gagner du courage dans un bar non loin du cinéma et fait la connaissance du secrétaire d'Etat au gouvernement prussien Hans Simon. Il lui donne le courage et tous les deux vont ensemble pour la première. Le film est un grand succès et Renate reçoit des commandes consécutives pour plusieurs films. Elle retrouve Hans, dont elle tombe amoureuse. Son ancien compagnon, Volker Hellberg, la met en garde contre lui, qui est un Juif et deviendra un problème pour elle à l'avenir. Volker est un petit libraire, mais veut se lancer dans la politique à Munich. Renate veut d'abord le soutenir, mais elle refuse le rejet radical de Hans et s'en va. Elle se rend vite compte que Hans est en danger parce qu'il est régulièrement insulté au téléphone en tant que juif et menacé de mort.

The von Trapps have left Austria and are now in the United States. But the Land of Unlimited Possibilities turns out to be anything but for our hapless heroes. Passau, mai 1957. La jeune artiste Franziska fait la connaissance de Stefan et tombe amoureuse. Après une première nuit ensemble, il doit aller travailler pour une agence de New York et Franziska reste seul à la maison. Après un an, Stefan se présente de nouveau. Elle fait semblant de ne pas l'aimer et d'être libre et indépendante, mais à la fin confesse son amour. Il lui fait une proposition de mariage et elle accepte malgré les inquiétudes. Comme il doit quitter le pays le lendemain pour un travail, elle retourne à Passau - dans la villa de Stefan, qu'elle veut réparer dans quelques semaines, alors qu'elle attend Stefan à Passau. At a convent in Austria in the 1930s, a spirited novice named Maria (Ruth Leuwerik) is sent by her mother superior to the estate of a widowed naval hero, Baron von Trapp (Hans Holt), to look after his seven unruly children. The baron is a stern disciplinarian and runs his household like a ship. When Maria arrives, she encourages the children to play games like other youngsters, and teaches them how to sing. When the baron discovers how Maria is ignoring his orders, he sends her back to the convent. Later, when he hears his children singing songs they've learned from Maria, his feelings for her change.
