Add to a movie list16 Days in Afghanistan is a 2007 documentary about the journey of Afghan-American Anwar Hajher (director) traveling to his homeland Afghanistan after 25 years to rediscover his country. The film is produced by Mithaq Kazimi and is the first documentary since the fall of Taliban to be shot in those provinces which remain under the heavy influence of the Taliban. It is also the first professionally produced documentary about Afghanistan by a team of Afghan filmmakers and has become a reference film used by many, including Penguin Books's study guides about Afghan-related books.
It is perhaps one of the earliest and most prominent documentaries to date that has been made in and about Afghanistan and shows in many top lists, including IMDb's Most Popular Titles by country and on Amazon's bestselling movies and TV on Afghanistan right after the Oscar nominee, Restrepo. as well as 16,000 likes on facebook. It was selected as part of the first Afghan art exhibit show in the British Museum opened by president Hamid Karzai.

In the film's first portion, filmed in B&W, Dr. Sergio, a psychiatrist, appears on a television program on a panel with three other contemporary psychiatrists after he claims to have conducted experiments on four volunteer drug addicts with LSD in order to investigate his claim that sexual perversion is caused by use of illegal drugs. As evidence, he presents a series of documented accounts of drug use which lead to lewd and bizarre sexual acts. Marins appears (as himself) on the panel with the psychiatrists as some type of expert on the subject of depravity. During the program, Dr. Sergio recounts the experiment to his colleagues on the panel, who reject his claims.

Takako Ishikawa (Nobuko Otowa) is a teacher on an island in the inland sea off the coast of Hiroshima after World War II. During her summer holiday, she goes back to Hiroshima to visit the graves of her parents and younger sister, who were killed in the bomb attack. She sees a beggar and realizes he is a man called Iwakichi (Osamu Takizawa) who used to work for her parents, now burned on the face and partially blind. She visits him at his home and asks about his family. His grandson, Tarō, is now in an institution. She visits the institution and finds the children barely have enough to eat. Takako offers to take Iwakichi and his grandson back to the island, but he refuses, running away.
