Synopsis
A Bruxelles, un véhicule décoré au logo d'une agence de voyage roule à vive allure sur une bretelle d'autoroute. A l'intérieur : un homme et trois femmes : Miguel, espagnol, livreur de billets d'avion, vit seul avec sa fille et aspire à rejoindre sa femme partie chanter aux USA. Laura, belgo-espagnole, fille de Miguel, collectionne les poupées Barbie et aspire à ce que sa mère revienne en Belgique. Sonia, Ukrainienne, professeur de français à Odessa, passée clandestinement en Belgique, souhaite retrouver son mari disparu. Abuelita, espagnole, mère de Miguel et grand-mère de Laura, aime les churros et Les Feux de l'amour. Elle aimerait connaître la fin de l'histoire de Sonia. Aujourd'hui, Miguel doit livrer un billet à un client très important.Actors

Carmela, Paulino, and Gustavete - who is mute as the result of an explosion - are a trio of travelling vaudeville performers. Amidst the chaos of the Spanish Civil War, they are in the town of Montejo, entertaining republican troops with their variety show. They are survivors who are motivated, not exactly by patriotism, but by a desire for self-preservation. Their show consists of four acts. It begins with Carmela singing and dancing a traditional song. The audience is enthusiastic during her performance, but the mood changes completely when the sound of approaching nationalist planes is heard.

Anne-Marie Gratigny is the wife of a famous plastic surgeon, Gilbert. She has a good life, with maids, money, and everything ordinary women would dream of. But her marriage is a total failure. As a result of years of neglect, Mrs. Gratigny has a lover named Leo, who works as a ship builder, and is urging Anne-Marie to leave her husband and this unbearable situation, and go with him to China, where he is seeking a big project for his work. However, after spending an entire day out, planning her departure, when Anne-Marie returns home, she is surprised to find the whole family there, with some very shocking news: Gilbert has died in a car accident. Relieved that her failed marriage is at an end, Anne-Marie now sees the chance to meet her lover more often, and is looking forward to being able to go to China with him, but all her hopes are dashed by the continuous presence of her family and in particular her son, who won't give her a break, thinking she's in shock because of losing her husband. She now has to pretend to be in mourning and hide her happiness and relief.
