Synopsis
Une réflexion sur la vie humaine dans toute sa beauté et sa cruauté, sa splendeur et sa banalité. Transportés dans un rêve, nous sommes guidés par la douce voix narrative d'une Shéhérazade. Les moments non pertinents prennent le même sens que les événements historiques : un couple flotte dans une colonie dévastée par la guerre ; alors qu’il accompagne sa fille à une fête d’anniversaire, un père s’arrête pour attacher ses chaussures sous une pluie battante ; des adolescentes dansent devant un café ; une armée vaincue marche vers un camp de prisonniers.Comments

A man is standing in a subway car, his face dirty with soot. In his right hand he carries a plastic bag with documents, or rather, the charred leftovers of them. In a corridor a man is clinging desperately to the legs of the boss who just fired him. He is screaming: "I've been here for thirty years!" In a coffee shop someone is waiting for his father, who just burned his furniture company for insurance money. Traffic jams and self-flagellating stock brokers are filling up the streets while an economist, desperate for a solution to the problem of work becoming too expensive, gazes into the crystal ball of a scryer. Everything and everyone is going somewhere but their goal and its meaning have disappeared along the way.

Kwong (Howard Sit) is a young boy who lives with his father (Felix Wong) and stepmother (Karen Mok). He blames his stepmother for the suicide of his mother 3 years earlier and continually runs away from home. One day, while walking to school, he meets an eccentric old man (Feng Xiaogang) in the park who accidentally pours a magic potion he has created down a drain. The next day, a huge tree has grown from a seedling in the drain. Kwong goes to the man's house and steals the potion, falling and breaking it as he tries to run away. Some of the potion enters a cut in his hand, and the next day he wakes up to find he has grown to the age of 20 overnight. Kwong (Andy Lau) is thrilled that he has become an adult and is able to finally run away from home without being recognized. As he gets older each day, he learns more about being an adult and about the situations of those around him.
