Synopsis
Klaus and Max are two poor boys from West Berlin, whose families are to poor to pay for their higher education. They face a bleak future. Their only hobby is boxing, and they are both desperate to purchase real boxing gloves. The two meet Klott, a gangster who owns a bar that serves American soldiers. Klott offers to pay them if they would assist him to steal valuable horses from a circus in East Berlin. The two agree and travel to the Soviet zone, where they meet a girl named Helli, a member of the Free German Youth, who explains to them that in the communist east, the lack of money will not bar their way to education. The two realize the error of their ways, contact the People's Police and help the officers hinder Klott's plans and arrest the other thieves working for him. The two remain in East Berlin.Actors

Julius, Richard and Anne spend the holidays with their cousin Georgina, called George. But the gathering designed to be rather boring, because Uncle Quentin has to prepare for a conference and so has this loud romp and play football prohibited. Nothing must disturb him. Condemned to silence, the four children, along with George Shepherd Tim, on the lawn in the garden of the house. Bored, they ponder what they could do about it during the holidays. The proposal "to go swimming" is rejected, bored. The second proposal, to row to the island, is discarded due to the spreading of heat and thus the expected physical exertion during rowing immediately. Anne's proposal to make a bicycle tour after a brief back and forth, and the inspired idea that they should bring tents, was enthusiastically received. Once they have persuaded the uncle and aunt, to allow such a long bike tour through the country to begin preparations. The maid Johanna helps. But the old equipment from the attic has become unusable. The camping equipment must be replaced. For a dealer to buy the Famous Five new bicycles, sleeping bags and a four-man tent, which is donated by his uncle. After they tucked the new equipment on the bikes, they drive off.

After brawling over a card game in the wharf area of New Orleans, a man named Kochak (Lewis Charles), suffering visibly from a flu-like illness, is killed by gangster Blackie (Jack Palance) and his two flunkies, Kochak's cousin Poldi (Guy Thomajan) and a man named Fitch (Zero Mostel). They leave the body on the docks, and later when the dead man, who carries no identification, is brought to the morgue, the coroner grows suspicious about the bacteria present in his blood and calls his superior, Dr. Clinton Reed (Richard Widmark), a Lt. Bob Saginowski (Tom Hardy) is a bartender at a neighborhood bar in Brooklyn called "Cousin Marv's". Marv (James Gandolfini) ceded ownership of the bar years earlier to Chechen mobsters and now operates it with Bob as a 'drop' for illegal takings. Marv berates Bob and some patrons for commemorating the 10th anniversary of the murder of a man named Richie Wheelan. Harry Fabian (Widmark) is an ambitious American hustler and conman operating in London, always looking for a better deal. He maintains a fractured relationship with the honest Mary Bristol (Tierney), nightclub owner and businessman Phil Nosseross (Sullivan), and Helen (Withers), who is Phil's estranged wife.
