The Mary Kay Letourneau Story: All-American Girl is a 2000 television movie based on the real-life story of Mary Kay Letourneau's illicit affair with one of her sixth grade students. The film was broadcast on the USA network on 18 January 2000 and was followed with a special entitled Letourneau: Live, which featured interviews with Letourneau and others involved with the scenario.

The lead role of Letourneau was played by actress Penelope Ann Miller and filming took place in Toronto during 1999. Letourneau cooperated with the film's producers and as she could not receive profits from the film per a Son of Sam law, her fees were placed in a trust fund for her children. As a way of developing her role, Miller corresponded with Letourneau over the telephone.

Synopsis

The story follows the saga of a 35-year old teacher who quickly falls in love with a 13-year old student she comes to believe is her soul mate. The 13-year old student is a troubled artist Vili (Omar Anguiano). Their relationship begins in Mary Kay's classroom, when she sees that Vili is a very talented artist. She later confides in him that her father, whom she loves very much, has cancer. Her husband, Steve Letourneau, was not supportive upon hearing this information at all, simply asking Mary Kay sarcastically what he was supposed to do about it. As Mary Kay begins to trust Vili more and more, the more forceful his flirtation becomes.

Director Salvador Litvak and his writing partner, Nina Davidovich Litvak, based their screenplay on their extensive research into Lincoln's friendship with Lamon. Saving Lincoln charts their relationship from their initial meeting to Lincoln's Presidency. Lamon was a tall, boisterous Southerner who liked to drink whiskey, tell jokes and stories, play the banjo, and wrestle. Despite some pronounced differences between the two men, they shared a fondness for telling jokes and stories, and both felt slavery should be eliminated.
