Synopsis
Durant la période d'occupation japonaise de la Corée, Park Yeol (Lee Je-hoon) est forcé de déménager au Japon en 1919 où il monte un plan à l’aide d’un groupe anarchiste nommé Heukdohwe (« Vague Noire »), composé de 14 Coréens et de 5 Japonais, afin d’assassiner le prince héritier Hirohito. Il connaîtra par ailleurs une liaison avec Fumiko Kaneko (Choi Hee-seo ), une nihiliste japonaise.Actors

In the late 16th century, the kingdom of Joseon is thrown into chaos by the threat of a Japanese invasion. Hwang Jeong-hak saves him from an injury caused by Mong-hak. Together the two search for Mong-hak in order to confront and kill him.

Set in the late 15th century during the reign of King Yeonsan, two male street clowns and tightrope walkers, Jangsaeng (Kam Woo-sung) and Gong-gil (Lee Joon-gi), are part of an entertainer troupe. Their manager prostitutes the beautiful Gong-gil to rich customers, and Jangsaeng is sickened by this practice. Soon-yi is a young woman stuck in an arranged marriage to a man who still loves his college girlfriend. À la fin de son règne, lors du Jubilé de 1887, on découvre la reine empêtrée par l'obséquiosité servile de son entourage. Affectivement, elle est seule depuis la mort de son mari trente ans plus tôt, ce que la scène introductive du banquet ne manque pas de souligner : les convives n'y paraissent que comme des pantins sans partager aucun affect ni propos avec la Reine. Lors de ce banquet, un seul invité se distingue : un des deux Indiens dépêchés par les autorités coloniales depuis la cité d'Agra pour présenter une pièce commémorative, et tenus par le protocole de ne jamais dévisager la Reine lorsqu'ils la lui montrent, ainsi que de se retirer le dos courbé à reculons tout le long du hall. Ce dernier ne respecte pas cette règle et tient un regard appuyé vers la Reine, laquelle ne manquera pas de le trouver beau ("handsome") en rapportant ultérieurement ses impressions auprès de son majordome. Elle réclame ensuite à nouveau sa présence, à la stupéfaction des valets.
