Back to God's Country is a 1927 silent film Northwoods adventure based on James Oliver Curwood's story Wapi, the Walrus. The film was directed by Irvin Willat and stars Renée Adorée, usually an MGM actress. The film is a remake of the 1919 film Back to God's Country which starred Nell Shipman.

The film survives today.

Synopsis

Le capitaine Blake rencontre Renée DeBois et décide de l'épouser malgré son opposition et celle du père de la jeune fille, Jean DeBois. Pour arriver à ses fins, il menace de révéler que le père a tué un précédent prétendant qui harcelait Renée. Celle-ci fait par ailleurs la connaissance de l'ingénieur Bob Stanton qui tombe amoureux d'elle et décide de l'aider à se débarrasser de Blake...

A gang of men frame Harvey Hanford (Houdini) for murder, and also decide to kidnap his fiancée. Hanford is quickly apprehended by the police and falsely imprisoned for the crime. Shortly afterward, Hanford escapes and pursues the men who framed him. The film unfolds as a series of Houdini's trademark set-piece stunts and escapes; his tormentors chain him up and imprison him on numerous occasions, only for Hanford to escape. The film concludes with a climactic mid-air collision following an aeroplane pursuit. Following the collision, Hanford is reunited with his fiancée.
