Add to a movie listMauvaise Graine (Bad Seed) is a 1934 French drama film directed by Billy Wilder (credited as Billie Wilder) and Alexander Esway. The screenplay by Wilder, H.G. Lustig, Max Kolpé, and Claude-André Puget focuses on a wealthy young playboy who becomes involved with a gang of car thieves.
Although Wilder and Esway shared the directing credit, in later years leading lady Danielle Darrieux recalled Esway was involved with the project in some capacity but clearly remembered she never saw him on the set. In her opinion the film, which marked Wilder's directorial debut, was his alone.
Synopsis
Set in 1930s Paris, the story centers on Henri Pasquier, whose wealthy father announces he no longer will support his playboy lifestyle. Dr. Pasquier sells his son's beloved Buick roadster, which Henri later sees parked on a street with the keys left in the ignition by the new owner. Unable to resist temptation, he takes the car to keep a date with a young lady he recently has met.Actors

It is February 1929 in the city of Chicago, Joe (Tony Curtis) is an irresponsible jazz saxophone player, gambler and ladies' man; his friend Jerry (Jack Lemmon) is a sensible jazz double-bass player. They accidentally witness the Saint Valentine's Day Massacre. When the gangsters, led by "Spats" Colombo (George Raft), spot them, the two run for their lives. Penniless and in a mad rush to get out of town, the two musicians take a job with Sweet Sue (Joan Shawlee) and her Society Syncopators, an all-female band headed to Miami. Disguised as women and renaming themselves Josephine and Daphne, they board a train with the band and their male manager, Bienstock. Before they board the train, Joe and Jerry notice Sugar Kane (Marilyn Monroe), the band's vocalist and ukulele player.

Young cello student Ariane Chavasse (Audrey Hepburn) eavesdrops on a conversation between her father, widowed private detective Claude Chavasse (Maurice Chevalier), and his client, "Monsieur X" (John McGiver). Lovers Lula and Sailor are separated after he is jailed for killing a man who attacked him with a knife; the assailant, Bobby Ray Lemon, was hired by Lula's mother, Marietta Fortune. Upon Sailor's release, Lula picks him up at the prison where she hands him his snakeskin jacket. They go to a hotel where she reserved a room, make love and go to see the speed metal band Powermad. At the club, Sailor gets into a fight with a man who flirts with Lula, and then leads the band in a rendition of Elvis Presley's "Love Me". Later, back in the room, after making love again, Sailor and Lula finally decide to run away to California, breaking Sailor's parole. Marietta arranges for private detective Johnnie Farragut – her on-off boyfriend – to find them and bring them back. Unbeknownst to Farragut, however, Marietta also hires gangster Marcellus Santos to track them, and kill Sailor. Santos's minions capture and kill Farragut, sending Marietta into a guilt-fueled psychosis.

In New York City, Charlie Driggs (Jeff Daniels) is a seemingly conventional banker whose wife has left him. L'action se passe en 1900. Annie Bourguet, danseuse de revue s'est un soir déguisée en comtesse en occupant une loge sous les conseils du directeur de théâtre. Dans la loge voisine Albert Bernard, contrôleur des wagons-lits est venu avec un billet primitivement offert au directeur des usines Jupiter qui se nomme Bernard (un homonyme), mais qui est passée de mains en mains. Albert Bernard croit donc avoir affaire à une comtesse et celle-ci à un riche directeur d'usine. Le quiproquo va durer très longtemps d'autant qu'Annie Bourguet gagnante (par recommandation) d'un concours de slogans des automobiles Jupiter vient de gagner un voyage à Nice, et que le vrai directeur des usines Jupiter se rend également à Nice pour une course automobile. Ils se retrouvent tous deux dans le même train dont le contrôleur est… Albert Bernard qui lui voudrait profiter de la course pour expérimenter un carburateur de son invention. Annie manipulera le directeur afin qu'il descende à Marseille, tandis qu'Albert Bernard prendra la place du directeur à Nice. Suite à l'intervention de la police et à la venue de la femme du directeur, tout rentrera è peu près dans l'ordre, les automobiles Jupiter gagneront la course grâce au nouveau carburateur et Albert et Annie après s'être avoués leur supercherie s'enfuiront en amoureux.
