Big Business is a 1924 American short silent comedy film directed by Robert F. McGowan. It was the 22nd Our Gang short subject released.

Synopsis

The gang starts up their own barbershop, giving the neighbourhood kids haircuts that wouldn't become popular for another sixty years. When they see Mickie in his Little Lord Fauntleroy outfit, they kidnap him and give him the works. Mickie then decides to join them in their enterprise.

Mickey lives a simple but satisfying life with his Uncle Patrick. His wealthy Aunt Kate petitions and wins custody of Mickey, forcing him to leave his home and his uncle, his friends, and his dog behind. Fighting with his cousin Percy and forced to take daily baths and manicures, Mickey is miserable. He writes a letter to Uncle Pat asking him and the gang to come visit. During their visit the gang destroys the house, including swinging from the chandelier and skating on a liquid soap 'ice rink' in the kitchen. An alarm is sent out, bringing the police, the fire department, an ambulance, and others to the house just as Aunt Kate arrives home. Seeing the destruction and realizing her mistake in bringing Mickey to her home, Aunt Kate asks Uncle Pat to take Mickey back, to both of their delight.

Author Fawn Ochletree (Clara Guiol) stages a charity performance of her latest play, a Romanesque epic. They are completely unable to remember their lines, and struggle with maintaining their composure during the more serious moments of the melodrama. Mickey is in the hospital to have his tonsils removed. The gang decide to visit him, and end up causing all sorts of disasters. They manage to work their way into both the x-ray and operating rooms, and become subdued after inhaling some powerful laughing gas. The kids want to get in on the free ice cream given to patients getting their tonsils removed, and decide to switch places with some boys headed to the hospital. But the doctors catch onto the gang's scheme, and a chase through the hospital ensues.

A new family moves into town. Mickey immediately falls in love with the family's daughter, Mary, and tries whatever he can to gain her affections. He tries taking her for a ride on his goat-powered wagon, and later dresses up as a knight. In the interim, the village blacksmith, "Dad" Anderson (Richard Daniels), receives a lucrative contract to produce a creation of his: a sail-propelled scooter. The gang is lucky enough to get a hold of a few of these scooters, and happily sail down the city streets.
