Born to Win is a 1971 black comedy film directed by Ivan Passer and starring George Segal, Karen Black, Paula Prentiss, Hector Elizondo and Robert De Niro. Released by United Artists, the film is probably the youngest film of the studio's library to be now in the public domain.

Synopsis

The film follows Jay Jay (Segal), a former hair dresser who has become a drug addict. He lives his new life by doing deals for Vivian (Elizondo) from time to time. One day he meets Parm (Black), a free spirited girl. The two fall in love. Jay Jay's drug habit grows, and he soon resorts to robbery. On the threat of arrest, he works alongside two dirty policemen by becoming a narc, and reports on his former fellow junkies. Yet, as the movie continues, Jay Jay sinks deeper into turmoil with feelings of self-hatred.

Dans une ville tchécoslovaque au début des années 1960, Petr Vanek, qui tente d'échapper à un père moralisateur et à une mère possessive, entre dans la vie active en tant qu'employé dans un petit magasin en libre-service. Soupçonnant un client de vol, Petr le suit en ville avant de décider de ne pas revenir travailler après une vaine poursuite. Il préfère ensuite aller nager en compagnie de deux jeunes apprentis maçons qui le méprisent. Il rencontre une fille de son âge qu'il courtise tout aussi gauchement et inefficacement qu'il a entamé son entrée dans le monde du travail. Pendant un bal, il découvre ensuite les effets de l'alcool. Petit à petit, il tente de trouver sa place dans cet univers parmi les adultes et leur vie routinière.

Like the 1986 film Gothic, Haunted Summer is set in 1816. Authors Lord Byron, Mary Shelley (née Godwin) and Percy Shelley get together for some philosophical discussions, but the situation soon deteriorates into mind games, drugs, and sex.
