Burning Blue ou Se brûler les ailes est un film dramatique américain coécrit, coproduit et réalisé par D. M. W. Greer, sorti en 2013. Il s’agit de l’adaptation de la pièce de théâtre homonyme de D. M. W. Greer (1992), basée des enquêtes sur les accidents de l'United States Navy vis-à-vis des homosexuels à l’époque de Don't ask, don't tell (« Ne demandez pas, n'en parlez pas »).
Synopsis
Amis de longues dates, les lieutenants Dan Lynch (Trent Ford) et Will Stephensen (Morgan Spector) sont pilotes de chasse de l’avion McDonnell Douglas F/A-18C/D Hornet. Tous deux aspirent à devenir les plus jeunes pilotes acceptés dans le programme spatial. À la suite de deux accidents, l'un est dû aux troubles de la vision de Will et l’autre, l’unité fait l'objet du Service d'enquêtes criminelles de la marine (NCIS) menés par John Cokely (Michael Sirow).Actors

US Navy pilots Lts. Daniel Lynch (Trent Ford) and Will Stephensen (Morgan Spector) are best friends hoping to both become the youngest pilots to be accepted into the space program. After two accidents, one of which is due to Will's failing eyesight, their unit is subject to an NCIS investigation led by John Cokely (Michael Sirow). At the same time, a third pilot, Matt Blackwood (Rob Mayes) arrives on the carrier and quickly develops a close friendship with Dan, driving a wedge in between Dan and Will. Cokely's investigation leads to him uncovering rumours about Dan and Matt's relationship just as they both begin to fall in love. When Matt decides to leave his wife and move in with Dan there is a third accident and Cokely's investigation ramps up the pressure on Dan.

Not soon after childhood sweethearts Joe Kelly and Claire get married, U.S. president declares war situation in the country. Joe, who is a Bomber pilot, leaves for the war. Abby (Brittany Murphy) is an American girl who goes to Tokyo to be with her boyfriend, Ethan (Gabriel Mann). Ethan tells her that he has to go to Osaka on a business trip and may not be back for a while. Abby asks to go with him but Ethan refuses and breaks up with her. Abby goes to a ramen shop afterward, and the chef Maezumi (Toshiyuki Nishida) and his wife Reiko (Kimiko Yo) tell her that they are closed. Abby does not understand them as she does not speak Japanese. She starts to cry, so the chef conveys to her to sit down. He brings her a bowl of ramen, and she loves it. A small distance away, she hallucinates that the lucky cat, known as the Maneki Neko, or Beckoning Cat, gestures to her to come over. She offers to pay for her meal, but the chef and his wife refuse.

Seven young English aviators are billeted at the Berthelot farm near the French front. One of the flyers, Philip Blythe, falls in love with farmer Berthelot's daughter, Jeannie, and on the morning before a dangerous mission declares his love for her. Philip is shot down, and Jeannie helps an ambulance crew to extricate his apparently lifeless body from the wrecked plane. In the following weeks, Jeannie searches in vain in all of the military army hospitals for Philip. She does encounter Philip's father, who, disapproving of her lowly origins, falsely informs her that Philip has died. In farewell, Jeannie sends a bouquet of lilacs to his room, and Philip, recognizing the flowers as her gift, painfully drags himself to his window in time to call her back to him.
