Add to a movie listChapaev (Russian: Чапаев, [tɕɪˈpaɪf]) is a 1934 Soviet film. It was directed by the Vasilyev brothers for Lenfilm. It is a story about Vasily Ivanovich Chapaev (1887–1919), a Red Army commander who became a hero of the Russian Civil War. The plot is based on the novel of the same name by Dmitri Furmanov, a Russian writer and Bolshevik commissar who fought together with Chapaev.
On release (premiered on 6 November 1934 in Leningrad cinema theatre "Titan"), the film became one of the most popular creations in the history of Soviet cinema. Within the first year it was watched by 30 million people in the USSR alone.
It was awarded the accolade "Best Foreign Film" by the US National Board of Review in 1935 and the Grand-Prix of the Paris World Fair in 1937.
In a 1978 poll of cinema critics, the film was considered one of the best 100 films in history.
After the release of the film, Chapaev and his assistants Petka and Anka became Russian folklore characters. This trio, together with their political commissar Furmanov, is present in a large number of Russian jokes.
Synopsis
Le protagoniste est Vassili Ivanovitch Tchapaïev, un commandant bolchévique de la Guerre civile russe. Le scénario est basé sur le livre éponyme de Dmitri Fourmanov. Fourmanov en réalité était commissaire politique de la division commandée par Tchapaïev. Son livre est néanmoins romancé et non pas simplement documentaire. Dans le film, Fourmanov apparaît en personne comme un des personnages principaux. L'image épique de Tchapaïev créée par Boris Babotchkine est celle d'un homme sans instruction, avec peu de conscience politique affirmée, mais qui comprit instinctivement les buts des Bolchéviks et l'art de la guerre révolutionnaire. (Le Tchapaïev historique était un homme plus complexe). Dans une scène célèbre, le commandant explique à un de ses subordonnés une attaque contre les Blancs en utilisant des pommes de terre qui symbolisaient tel ou tel groupe militaire. Parmi les personnages principaux, on trouve Petka, jeune aide-de-camp de Tchapaïev, et une jeune fille, Anka, qui est responsable de la mitrailleuse. Dans la scène finale, Tchapaïev se noie dans le fleuve Oural.Actors

Following the Russian Revolution, Maksim is appointed state commissar in charge of the national bank. With great efforts, he learns the complexies of the banking trade and begins to fight off sabotaging underlings. Dymba, now a violent enemy of the Republic, tries to rob a wine store but is arrested with Maksim's help. Maksim also exposes a conspiracy of a group of tsarist officers who prepare an attempt against Lenin. He then joins the Red Army in its fight against the German occupation.

In France during the German occupation, a young German naval officer is killed in Paris by a group of leftist activists. The compliant Vichy government seeks to appease the Germans by locating the perpetrators and agreeing to the execution of six people, and a special section is set up for this purpose. The section consists of judges who are too ambitious, cowardly or inhuman to refuse such work. The flames of totalitarianism must be stoked, even with innocent blood, and it is especially convenient to the government if the accused are thoroughly expendable in their eyes.

Two wounded soldiers, a Bosniak (Čiki, portrayed by Branko Đurić) and a Bosnian Serb (Nino, portrayed by Rene Bitorajac) are caught between their lines in the no man's land, in a struggle for survival. The story of Saladin (Ahmed Mazhar) portrays the title character, ruler of the kingdoms surrounding Jerusalem, during the events of the Third Crusade. The film starts with Jerusalem, which is under the authority of the Christians of Europe, having its Muslim pilgrims slaughtered by the Christians in the holy lands. Saladin upon hearing this news seeks the reclamation of the holy lands in a short, almost impossible campaign. He succeeds in taking back Jerusalem, which leads the powers of Europe to organize the Third Crusade with the combined forces of the French king (Omar El-Hariri) and German emperor under the leadership of Richard the Lionheart of England. Saladin succeeds in preventing the recapture of Jerusalem, and in the end negotiations between himself and Richard (whom Saladin admires as the only honorable infidel leader) leave the Holy Land in Muslim hands.
