Synopsis
The film is a dark comedy/drama about the Lebanese civil war. During the civil war, many well-off Lebanese families fled the country to look for their personal interests internationally, leaving behind their residences under the care of maids and laborers from Egypt, the Philippines and Sri Lanka. The film draws the portrait of a war-tormented Beirut neighborhood, and the love between a Muslim militia fighter and a Christian maid.Actors

The Kite is set in a village called Deir Mimas over the border of the pre-occupied territories in southern Lebanon (occupied by Israel). The 16-year-old Lebanese girl Lamia (Flavia Bechara) lives with her family in the village. Her family had promised to marry her off to her cousin Samy (Edmond Haddad), who lives on the Israel side. Lamia’s mother, Amira (Randa Asmar) was unwilling and dejected to send her daughter away because that meant that Lamia could never come back because of the tense political situation at the border.

Le lendemain, Anne prête ses clés à Fabien, un collègue épuisé par ses trajets domicile-travail. Dans l'appartement, Fabien se retrouve nez à nez avec Gérard, le mari d'Anne, baroudeur disparu sous les tropiques six mois plus tôt.

Brothers Thomas (Bruno Todeschini) and Luc (Eric Caravaca) have an estranged relationship. In April 1975, civil war breaks out; Beirut is partitioned along a Muslim-Christian line and is divided into East and West Beirut. After the line was created, Tarek is now considered to live in west Beirut (the Muslim part and Tarek is Muslim himself) and is in high school, making Super 8 movies with his friend, Omar. At first the war is a lark: school has closed (and is situated in east Beirut no longer accessible to Muslims since Christians build up walls to defend themselves), the violence is fascinating, getting from West to East is a game. His mother wants to leave the country; but his father refuses. Tarek spends time with May, a Christian, orphaned and living in his building. By accident, Tarek goes to an infamous brothel in the war-torn Olive Quarter, meeting its legendary madam, Oum Walid (name's translation: Walid's Mom). He then takes Omar and May there. Family tensions rise. Later on and as he comes of age, the war moves inexorably from adventure to a nationwide tragedy.
