Crossfire Hurricane is a 2012 documentary film about The Rolling Stones written and directed by Brett Morgen. The film chronicles the early years of the band through 1981. The film is a series of interviews conducted without cameras, while showing various points of interest that the band is discussing as archival footage. The title of the film comes from the first line of the band's 1968 hit "Jumpin' Jack Flash".

Synopsis

On their 50th anniversary, the Rolling Stones, with the support of archive footage and interviewed by director Brett Morgen, retrace the first 20 years of their career. The film discusses their early success in the sixties; the way the media characterised the difference between them and the Beatles; the exceptional musical talent of Brian Jones; their first song-writing; the difference between the boy fans' aggressiveness that resulted in fights with the police and the girl fans' screaming hysteria; Mick Jagger and Keith Richards drug use and their arrest; the musical contribution of Brian Jones that was waning due to excessive use of drugs, and his death a few weeks after the separation from the band; Mick Taylor's debut concert in Hyde Park in memory of Jones and the return to world tours; the awful organization of the Altamont Free Concert; their flight to tax exile in 1971; the recording of Exile on Main St. in a villa on the south of France; Mick Taylor's departure and the arrival of Ronnie Wood; and the arrest of Keith Richards in Canada for possession of heroin and his decision to detox, to safeguard the future of the band.

After Don Cobain marries Wendy O'Conner, she gets pregnant and gives birth to their son Kurt Cobain. He is a hyperactive kid and at the age of three, his sister Kim is born. At the age of nine his parents divorce and he goes to stay with his dad. Don tells Kurt that he wouldn't get married again, but breaks his promise when he meets Jenny Westeby who already has two kids. They get married and have another kid Chad. Kurt tortures his siblings and Jenny has Don kick him out. Kurt goes to stay with his mom and his sister. He starts hanging out with a few kids he hates but hangs out with them so he can smoke marijuana. They go over to a girls house where they distract her and one of them grabs alcohol from the basement. They get away with this for only a month, and during that month Kurt gets suicidal. He decides that before he kills himself he wants to have sex first. He goes over to the girls house and when they are about to have sex, he leaves after being grossed out by how her vagina smelled. After a conversation with Buzz Osborne, he starts listening to punk rock. Two weeks before school gets out, he drops out due to lack of credits. He decides to make a band and meets Krist Novoselic. They form their band with Chad Channing on drums. After going through many names, they call the band Nirvana.

En 1972, les Stones amènent leur tournée Exile on Main Street au Texas : 15 chansons, dont cinq de l'album "Exile". Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Mick Taylor, Charlie Watts et Bill Wyman sur une petite scène avec trois autres musiciens. Ce documentaire de la tournée américaine des Rolling Stones en1969, est devenu un symbole poignant de la disparition de l'époque "Peace and Love". Après une tournée couronnée de succès au travers des Etats-Unis, les Rolling Stones effectuent en décembre un concert gratuit à Altamont Speedway en Californie. Le groupe à choisi imprudemment les Hells Angels pour assurer la sécurité. Les motards ont recours à la violence pour maintenir en ordre une foule agitée, stone, et souvent nue. Le résultat: des dizaines de blessés et la mort à l'écran d'un jeune homme noir (pendant "Sympathy for the Devil") par un membre de la sécurité. De façon arrangée, mais efficace, les frères Maysles filment Mick Jagger dans la salle de montage regardant l'assassinat projeté pour la première fois. Le film fonctionne aussi comme un documentaire du rock-and-roll, capturant la bande pendant leur moments les plus détendus, enivrant, et électrisant.
