Danny yearns for the simple life while girlfriend Trudy (Clarke) fantasizes about bright lights and fast times. While Danny plans for their annual camping trip, Trudy tells him she has to work, so the trip is off. In reality, Trudy is using her work connections at a local real estate agency to set up a meeting with a handsome local sports reporter, Sandy Upman (Muldoon). Danny sees them together while he's shopping for a weekend barbecue, leaving him even more disenchanted with their relationship.![The Craic](/imagesen/small/114822.jpg)

It's 1988 and two best friends from Ireland (Jimeoin McKeown, Alan McKee) flee from Belfast after a violent confrontation with Colin (Robert Morgan) of the IRA and illegally enter Australia. The two fear immigration officers, and (after some gentle persuasion) Fergus Montague (McKeown) goes on a TV dating game show and wins a trip to Queensland in the process. This, however, occurs just as the pair's apartment is raided by immigration officer Derek Johnson [(Nicolas Bell)] and Wesley Murray (McKee) is forced to escape and eventually joins his friend in Queensland. Meanwhile, Colin is sent to Australia in a witness protection program after he gives up some of his former colleagues, and (much to the skepticism of his watchers, the SAS) names Fergus and Wesley as terrorists. Irritated by their lack of progress he eventually takes off to find them himself.![Doing Time for Patsy Cline](/imagesen/small/113320.jpg)

Julie finds her husband Henry in bed with another woman when she returns home early from a trip with their twins, Nicholas and Nicole (who have an amazing bond, believe in magic and even have their own language). When she discovers that her son has lung cancer, Julie seeks help from a faith healer in Poland. A romantic relationship develops between Julie and Alexei (the healer). After Nicholas is cured, Alexei pays Julie a visit in Canada and they begin a relationship. Nicholas gets sick again and Alexei is unable to cure him. By choosing love, Alexei has lost his gift. Julie is pregnant (from Alexei) and she and her husband reunite, both resigned about the tragic fate of their son and trying to make the best out of the situation for their daughter's sake. In the twins' magical world, death is certainly not the end, we find out in the last scene.![Noise](/imagesen/small/124806.jpg)

The film is set up amongst the landscape of two potentially related murders: that of an engaged woman in Sunshine, and that of seven passengers on a train in Melbourne's inner west. From there, the film deals primarily with the experiences of Lavinia Smart, a young woman who boarded the train shortly after the murders, and police Constable Graham McGahan, who is afflicted with increasingly severe tinnitus. When he requests light duty on account of his tinnitus, Constable McGahan is assigned the night shift of a police information van in the inner-western Melbourne suburb of Sunshine, where he encounters the traumatized members of the local community, including Lucky Phil, a mentally handicapped man, and Dean Stouritis, the fiance of the slain woman.
