Synopsis
Dear J is about an evangelist, James Jamisin (Joseph Halsey), who must cope with the unexpected death of his agnostic girlfriend: Paige (Maya Serhan). To sort things out, James admits himself into Logous Psychiatric Institute, where he replays a make-believe Trial in his mind over and over again. The Trial is presided over by a no-nonsense imaginary Judge (played by Karen Lynn Gorney) and is animated by an array of off-the-wall characters. Some of the witnesses called to the stand are inspired by real-life individuals, like the literary scholar and apologist C.S. Lewis (Patrick Mitchell). Throughout the movie, his psychologist, Dr. Frolick (Allison Lane) tries to get him to open the letter Paige wrote to him just before her death—a letter he has been carrying around and refuses to read. Trouble brews when the head of the institute, Dr. Donovin (Carson Grant), plans on foiling all attempts to bring James to a resolution.Actors

Ambrose McKinley; a fiercely independent, yet blind Vietnam War veteran and his seeing eye dog German Shepherd are moved into a retirement community at the edge of a forest. Willful and adamant that he can live on his own, he and his son Will are clearly not on the best of terms. He meets three neighbor women; Gloria, Anna and Victoria, who; while at first admiring Ambrose, are quickly put off by his attitude toward them. He meets his neighbor Delores, who shares the duplex with him. That night, during a full moon, something breaks into Delores' kitchen and brutally slashes her to death. Ambrose hears the commotion and is also attacked by a massive werewolf. His dog comes to his defense as Ambrose struggles to find his gun, he manages to deter the creature, but his dog is mortally wounded. The next day, the police find him cradling his dog, and despite the destruction and his claims of the attack, it is shrugged off as a home invasion.

Jake Jackson is a happy, positive young black professional who has a good job and a relationship. As Jake goes about his daily routine, he sees incidences of racism around him which are perplexing to him because he never had experienced them himself. But all this changes one day, when one of his white co-workers asks if he would be interested in a date. When Jake turns her down, she becomes upset. She concocts an incident at work which gets Jake fired from his job. This incident begins Jake's experience with racial bias. During Jake's job search, he continues to be bombarded with racial incidents from the police, security guards, job interviewers, and store owners. By the end of the film Jake is a changed man, frustrated, angry, and exhausted from all the racial bias he has experienced. However, Jake's luck changes when he encounters a wanted serial killer.

Shin (Jo Odagiri), a Japanese university student, finds a book with a section about the hazards to be found in New York City. Otherwise leading a boring life, he eagerly heads to New York but soon finds out the hazzards are true when he is mugged. Two Japanese-American punks, Lee (Jai West), an outgoing thief his shy sidekick Takeda (Motoki Fukami), help him out after the mugging, and together the three begin a life of excitement and danger. In the end, that gets them in trouble with the police, resulting in a death. Shin ultimately goes back to Japan with a new thirst for life.

The film starts as David Clemens (Keir Dullea) is brought to a residential treatment center by his apparently caring mother.
