Synopsis
Durant la Première Guerre mondiale, la petite ville de Saint-Corentin se trouve derrière les lignes allemandes. Le curé, l'abbé Gaillard (Léon Mathot) y cache des soldats français évadés dans sa cave et toute la ville résiste sourdement à l'occupant. Le chef de la Kommandantur, le francophile colonel von Niederstoff (Guillaume de Sax) souhaite mettre fin à cette situation sans compromettre ses efforts pour amadouer la population, contrairement au brutal lieutenant Heim (Gabriel Gabrio). Un de ses hommes, le sergent-interprète Stiefel (Paul Azaïs), soupçonne le curé : il décide de se faire passer pour un soldat français évadé. Cependant la situation ne tarde pas à se compliquer avec sa mort et l'arrivée d'un nouvel enquêteur, le lieutenant Kompartz (Jean-Max), bien décidé à comprendre ce qui se trame en ville et à la Kommandantur.Actors

In the spring of 1918, a German U-boat stops a Dutch freighter on its way to Stockholm, Sweden during the final year of World War I. The Germans board the ship, identify one man as a Belgian spy, and take him prisoner. One of the passengers questioned is an attractive Swiss dress shop owner named Madeleine Goddard (Vivien Leigh) who is returning to Stockholm from a business trip to Paris, where she purchased dresses for her boutique. After returning to Stockholm, Madeleine, who is a German spy, meets with her contacts and provides information on Allied troop movements she acquired in Paris. The information is cleverly concealed in the gowns she purchased. While the Germans believe that she is one of their top spies, Madeleine is in fact a French double agent working to uncover the identity of the new German secret service leader in Stockholm.

The movie takes place as two parallel plots separated by couple years: In 1982, Wylie Cooper (Moore), is an engineer developing a targeting system on a tank for the United States Army. In 1984, Murphy is US Army Lt. Landry, an American tank commander sent to Kuwait to demonstrate "XM-10 Annihilator", America's latest main battle tank, which is equipped with Cooper's system.
