Synopsis
Marta works as a telephone operator for a telephone company. She lives with her friend Nanda in Nanda's flat. But Nanda's priority is above anything else to find a husband. When she feels she has found the right man she doesn't want Marta any longer in her flat. But while Nanda's relationship fails, Marta meets and marries a man named Pietro. Only then it turns out her husband has an old friend. The man, a foreigner, moves in with the two of them. Marta tries to pair off the foreigner with her single friend Nanda. Both women think this might work out. But Pietro's friend has bought a boat in order to sail around the world with Pietro and when the friend announces to do this alone, Marta's husband has a breakdown. In the end Pietro abandons Marta, explaining to her that he has no plans for a return from this journey with his friend.Actors

Somewhere in Spain, off-road race car driver Ben (Spencer) is anticipating the next rallycross race he will be in, because of the prize—a red Puma dune buggy with yellow top. However, he does not count on "The Kid" (Hill) entering the competition, and he also has a talent for the sport—and an eye on that same dune buggy. During the race, each man battles furiously to the finish line. But in a surprise, they both end up tying for first place, and they are both awarded the dune buggy. They run from their cars and touch the buggy at the same time. Of course, sharing is out of the question, so they soon get to a serious discussion as to how it should be decided as to who gets the buggy. Finally they decide to bet it in a "beer and sausages" duel in a luna park pub, in which "the first one that blow up lose the car and pay the tab" .

In the 18th century, Louis Dominique Bourguignon is working with Malichot's gang, but their ways are too 'unethical' for him. He hides out from Malichot and joins the army, where he and his two new friends survive by hiding out on the battlefield. Together they rob the general of his gold. Fleeing, they stop at an inn where they meet Venus, a beautiful gypsy who has been taken prisoner. He rescues her and she joins his gang. Returning to Paris, de Bourguignon creates his own band, acting under the name of Cartouche, and most of Malichot's gang join him. They make audacious robberies of the rich people, and distribute the takings with the poor. Thus, Cartouche attracts the people's sympathies, Venus's love, and hate from the Police and Malichot. Malichot goes to the police to betray Cartouche, but Cartouche can escape all the traps they set at him - except the entrapments of love. Eventually, the police use this against him and set a trap while he has a tryst with Venus in the countryside. He is captured, but his men ambush the guards as they lead him away. In the scuffle that follows, Cartouche is saved by Venus, who sacrifices her life to save him from harm. Cartouche and his men place Venus's body in an expensive carriage they stole earlier from a nobleman and roll the carriage in a lake. As the carriage slowly sinks Cartouche tells his men to disperse as he vows to avenge the death of his beloved Venus - a way that he anticipates will lead him sooner or later to the gallows.
