Synopsis
Peu avant la fin de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, dans les Pays-Bas occupés, trois soldats américains ont réussi à s’enfuir d’un camp de prisonniers de guerre allemand. Leur objectif est d’atteindre Amsterdam qui est tout près. Ils soupçonnent que la Kommandantur de la ville renferme dans une chambre forte non seulement des documents très importants pour la guerre, mais aussi un trésor de diamants d’une valeur inestimable. Dans leur fuite les fugitifs reçoivent le soutien de la résistance néerlandaise. C’est pourquoi le général SS allemand Hassler fait fusiller 30 habitants - au grand mécontentement du général von Keist, commandant de la ville, qui craint pour l’armistice de fait avec les partisans néerlandais.Actors

When a fellow agent is murdered, secret agent Miss Maxwell (Lois Maxwell) is sent to find the murdered agent's girlfriend, Miss Yashuko (Yashuko Yama), who is in possession of valuable information. Maxwell discovers that Yashuko is in the care of Dr. Neil Connery, a cosmetic surgeon, hypnotist, and the brother of another important agent; Connery then takes Maxwell into custody as well. The movie is filmed in the style of a docudrama. The American Buckley-class destroyer escort USS Haynes detects and attacks a German U-boat that is on its way to rendezvous with a German merchant raider in the South Atlantic Ocean. Captain Murrell (Robert Mitchum), a former officer in the merchant marine now an active duty lieutenant commander in the Naval Reserve, has recently taken command of the Haynes, even though he is still recovering from injuries incurred in the sinking of his previous ship. Before the U-boat is first spotted, one sailor questions the new captain's fitness and ability. However, as the battle begins, Murrell shows himself to be a match for wily U-boat Kapitän von Stolberg (Curt Jürgens) (portrayed as not being enamoured with the Nazi regime) in a prolonged and deadly battle of wits that tests both men and their crews. Each man grows to respect his opponent.

During the Dunkirk evacuation in 1940, a team of German saboteurs assume the identities of dead British soldiers and are transported to England. Their first objective is to cripple British air defences by destroying radar stations. Though the identities and whereabouts of the saboteurs are unknown, a team of British soldiers is set up to track them down and abort their mission. While the Battle of Britain rages overhead, the final confrontation takes place as the German team are about to blow up the RAF Fighter Command control centre.
