Add to a movie listEdie & Pen, also known as Desert Gamble, is a 1996 film that was directed by Matthew Irmas and written by Victoria Tennant. It had its world premiere on 10 May 1996 at the Cannes Film Festival and stars Stockard Channing and Jennifer Tilly as the titular Edie and Pen, two women who make a connection in a Vegas bar. The film was later given a cable release on HBO starting in July 1996 and was also released on DVD by Image Entertainment in 2003.
Synopsis
Pen (Stockard Channing) and Edie (Jennifer Tilly) are two women that have come to Las Vegas to secure divorces from their respective husbands. Edie is cheerful about her divorce since she's going to travel overseas to quickly remarry a man that she's been dating, while Pen is upset because her divorce was a result of her husband's philandering. Both women decide to drink at a local bar where they become fast friends, bonding over their unsuccessful marriages, as Pen's husband left her shortly after their marriage two years ago and Edie's husband Victor (Stuart Wilson) spent the last nine years neglecting her. They're unaware that they have a deeper bond between the two of them, as Edie's fiance is actually Victor, Pen's newly divorced husband.Actors

Specialist Ray Elwood (Joaquin Phoenix) is a U.S. Army soldier stationed in Stuttgart, Germany, in 1989. Bored with the lack of a war, he instead devotes his attention to black market deals, as well as cooking heroin for a gang of drug-dealing Military Police led by Sergeant Saad. Russia is being terrorized by an evil witch known as Baba Yaga (Andrea Martin), and the only one who is not afraid of her is Bartok the Magnificent (Hank Azaria). Bartok, an albino bat, has just arrived in Moscow and is impressing everyone with his performances, including Prince Ivan (Phillip Van Dyke). The Wrong Guy tells the story of dorky executive Nelson Hibbert (Foley), who gets passed over for a promotion. Upon hearing this, he ends up shouting "I'll kill you!" as security drags him from the board room. Later, when he goes to confront his boss (Kenneth Welsh), he finds that the man has already been murdered, and, due to the scene he made earlier, assumes that he will be mistaken for the murderer. The film begins by showing the Beindorfs, Janet (Jamie Lee Curtis), Ned (Kevin Pollak), Gregory whose nicknamed "Grover" (Kyle Howard), and Stacy (Amy Sakasitz), a supposedly happy family living a typical family life in the suburbs of Defiance, Ohio. It is revealed that Janet and Ned are not happy and in fact separating although they tell their children it is not a divorce. Grover and Stacy first try to recreate their parents' honeymoon in the basement of their house but this fails to bring any happiness into their relationship. The children then leave the basement telling their parents they must get another surprise for them upstairs. They go up, close the door, and nail it shut. They vow to keep it shut until their parents work out their problems.
