Entertaining Mr Sloane is a 1970 black comedy film directed by Douglas Hickox. The screenplay by Clive Exton is based on the 1964 play of the same title by Joe Orton. This was the second adaptation of the play, the first having been developed for British television and telecast by ITV on 15 July 1968.

Synopsis

Murder, homosexuality, nymphomania, and sadism are among the themes of this black comedy focusing on a brother and sister who become involved with a young, sexy, amoral drifter with a mysterious past.

Roy, an aspiring actor, reaches a dilemma in his career. She meets the young Trevor; a man who persuades him to follow his heart and become a woman. Trevor himself used to be a girl called Gertrude, but had a fake penis implanted and breast reductions. Roy becomes Wendy, and gets with Frank. Frank secretly love Trevor, as he was Gertrude's Childhood sweetheart, in Alabama. Roy's father, who is now Wendy's father, runs away to escape the madness of the situation. Shirley follows him, and joins him in his downward spiral of drug using and alcohol. Mr Waites and Margaret Stephenson try and talk to Frank to tell him Gertrude is no longer the woman she was, and that he should love Wendy for who she is. At the end of the film, Trevor reveals that he was a man all along, and when he was younger he just wore a crudely made orange wig to fool Frank.
