Synopsis
Suite à la mort de leur chef, Erik et Eyolf sont désignés pour diriger le peuple viking. Eyolf voit d'un mauvais œil ce partage du pouvoir auquel il ne s'attendait pas. Sous la menace des Danois, Erik décide d'aller à la recherche des nouvelles terres, Eyolf ne l'accompagne pas, mais ses complices sont du voyage. Arrivé en Amérique, les vikings fraternisent avec les indiens, et Erik tombe amoureux de Wa-Ta-Wa, la fille du chef. Le mariage est prévu, mais Sven, un autre dignitaire indien la convoite, il s'ensuit une violente bataille aiguisé par les partisans de Eyolf. Ceux-ci seront tués aux cours des affrontements mais Wa-Ta-Wa recevra une flèche mortelle. Quand Erik revient au pays alors qu'on le croyait mort il comprend la trahison de Eyolf qui poursuivi par la foule se jette du haut d'une falaise.Actors

The king of Crete, Cadmos, has just murdered his wife in order to live with his scheming lover Ermione. For this deed, a prophetess curses him in the name of the gods, foretelling him that the man his infant daughter Antiope would one day fall in love with will eventually be his doom. Furious at the gods' judgement and unable to kill Antiope on the spot (lest the curse would fulfill itself immediately), megalomanic Cadmos renounces the gods and proclaims himself one. To this end, he and Ermione undergo a treatment with mystical vapors which render their bodies invulnerable (save for one critical spot on Ermione's chest uncautiously left covered).

Dans la Rome antique, l'empereur Commode règne par la terreur et ne se préoccupe guère de la famine affaiblissant son pays. Seuls les jeux de cirque arrivent à le distraire. The island of Berk is a remote Viking village, from which dragons periodically steal livestock. Hiccup, the awkward son of the village chieftain, Stoick the Vast, is too small to fight the dragons and instead fashions mechanical devices under his apprenticeship with Gobber the blacksmith, though his inventions often backfire. During one attack, Hiccup believes he has shot down a Night Fury, an extremely rare and dangerous dragon. Hiccup later finds it in the forest trapped in his bolas, but finds that he can't bring himself to kill the dragon and instead sets it free. Stoick assembles a fleet to find the dragons' nest, leaving Hiccup in a dragon-fighting class taught by Gobber. Hiccup returns to the forest to find the Night Fury still there, and realizes it is unable to fly properly because of its crippled caudal fin. Hiccup gradually tames the dragon and gives it the name "Toothless", for its retractable teeth. Hiccup makes a harness and prosthetic fin that allows him to guide the dragon in free flight. By studying Toothless' behavior, Hiccup becomes proficient in subduing the captive dragons during training. Stoick's fleet arrives home unsuccessful, but he is cheered by Hiccup's unexpected success.
