Ann (Angela Punch-McGregor) and Richard (Richard Moir) are a contemporary couple with two young children. They live on the outskirts of Canberra, in a newish suburb that has yet to encroach on the bare hills behind the house they are now extending. Richard travels a lot on business. Ann is studying for a degree. The passion of true love has gone. Part I describes Ann's affair with her husband's best friend, Michael (Steven Jacobs); Part II describes Richard's affair with another woman, Eleanor (Kim Krejus).

After a brief chase, Archie stops and Eric confronts them. When Eric tries to attack Archie, Henry knocks him unconscious with a shotgun.
