Furrows (Spanish: Surcos) is a 1951 Spanish film directed by José Antonio Nieves Conde, and written by him in collaboration with Gonzalo Torrente Ballester, Eugenio Montes, and Natividad Zaro. It provides an unsettling portrait of post-Civil War Madrid while dictator Francisco Franco was in power.
Synopsis
Surcos follows the struggles of a Spanish family as it emigrates from the country to Madrid circa 1950. Facing difficulties in finding housing and employment, several family members turn to illegal or immoral activities in order to make ends meet, and the traditional family structure disintegrates.Actors

Rome, 8 septembre 1943 : Danilo, étudiant à l'université, échappe à l'enrôlement pendant que son ami Michele, un jeune comptable craintif, qui était déjà dans un train en direction du Nord avec d'autres employés de son ministère, parvient à retourner à Rome, où il a laissé sa fiancée Ida. Vaincu par la peur, toutefois, il se joint à Danilo pour chercher à dépasser la Ligne gothique. Par hasard, ils font la connaissance de Gino (Tomás Milián), qui se joint à eux quand le tramway des Châteaux sur lequel ils voyagent est arrêté par les Allemands. Tous les trois se réfugient dans une cave où se cache un groupe de soldats déserteurs, commandés par Orlando (Renato Salvatori). Ils sont ensuite rejoints par le partisan Edoardo (Romolo Valli), qui leur donne la charge de faire sauter un pont utilisé pour ravitailler les troupes allemandes. Le groupe se procure l'explosif nécessaire au sabotage mais se disperse en apprenant la capture d'Edoardo par les Allemands. Danilo, Michele et Gino retournent à Rome, où ils apprennent la mort d'Edoardo, qui a confié à ses camarades le soin d'accomplir le sabotage. Profondément mûris, les trois jeunes protagonistes décident de mener à terme la mission : ayant rejoint Orlando, ils réussiront à faire sauter le pont. Dans l'opération, Michele perdra la vie, rachetant par un geste de véritable héros une vie vécue dans la terreur.

The Mexican revolutionary General Jose Juan Reyes (Pedro Armendáriz) and his men descend upon and take over the small town of Cholula, Puebla, and take the money of the rich men of the zone for the Mexican Revolution. The revolutionary is a Robin-Hood type vigilante that forces the local businessmen to bend to his will, while the townspeople admire him for his cause. Second Lieutenant Peter Stirling (Donald O'Connor) is caught behind Japanese lines in Burma during World War II. Francis, a talking Army mule (voiced by Chill Wills), carries him to safety. When Stirling insists that the animal rescued him, he is placed in a psychiatric ward. Each time Stirling is released, he accomplishes something noteworthy (at the instigation of Francis), and each time he is sent back to the psych ward when he insists on crediting the talking mule. Finally, Stirling is able to convince General Stevens (John McIntire) that he is not crazy, and he and the general become the only ones aware of Francis' secret. In an effort to get himself released from the psych ward, Stirling asks Stevens to order Francis to speak, but the mule will not obey until it becomes clear that Stirling will be arrested for treason if he remains silent.

Part 1 Alexei Ivanov, a shy steel factory worker, greatly surpasses his production quota and is chosen to receive the Order of Lenin and to have a personal interview with Joseph Stalin. Alexei falls in love with the idealist teacher Natasha, but has difficulties approaching her. When he meets Stalin, who tends his garden, the leader helps him to understand his emotions and tells him to recite poetry to her. Then, they both have a luncheon with the rest of the Soviet leadership in Stalin's home. After returning from Moscow, Alexei confesses his love to Natasha. While they are both having a stroll in a wheat field, their town is attacked by the Germans, who invade the Soviet Union.
