Garfield Gets a Life is a half-hour animated television special based on the Garfield comic strip written by Jim Davis. It features Lorenzo Music as the voice of Garfield. The special was first broadcast May 8, 1991 on CBS and has been released on both VHS and DVD home video. It was the final Garfield television special, in spite of the success of Garfield and Friends animated series as CBS cancelled new animated specials in 1990. Odie only appears twice in this special.

Synopsis

Jon now recognizes that he needs a life, an escape from his boring existence as the guy who arranges his sock drawer. Garfield found a book called "How To Make Friends And Fool The Rest". He tries to find some girls around town, but none of them are impressed, and they all find him to be a dweeb. One night, he sees an ad on TV about "Lorenzo's School for the Personality Impaired" and decides to go there.

Garfield and Odie are outside harassing a neighbor's dog when the owner, Hubert, calls the pound to capture Odie. When the dogcatcher arrives, Garfield flees, but Odie is too stupid to run away and is captured. Garfield decides to go home, but when he attempt to warn Jon about Odie, Jon thinks that Garfield is just suffering fleas and Garfield gives up telling Jon, but realizes how boring life is without Odie around, so that night, Garfield decides to rescue Odie. However, the dogcatcher captures Garfield and later throws him into the pound and learns from a cellmate that Odie is going to be put to sleep in the morning.

In the faraway eternally busy city of Din, live the black-and-white Rushers, who constantly go about their business in a fast-paced way and stop only to sleep. Din lies in between two worlds that create dreams to deliver to the sleeping Rushers – one is the bright and cheerful Frivoli, where Greensleeves and his Figmen of Imagination bring sweet dreams, and the other is the Murkworks, a dark and dingy factory home to vultures who drop nightmare bombs. The evil Synonamess Botch, maniacal ruler of the Murkworks wants to foil Greenie's efforts and subject the Rushers to non-stop waking nightmares. He uses his vultures to kidnap the Figs and Greensleeves, but not before Greensleeves writes an S.O.S. to Frivoli.

On the planet Dorkon, Professor Wally (the professor counterpart to Wally) shows Emperor Jon (the Emperor counterpart to Jon Arbuckle) his new invention, The Moscram ray gun, a device powered by the Klopman crystal that can scramble inanimate objects and organisms into new creatures under the user's control. A young man, Oisin "(pronounced O-sheen)" returns home with a group of huntsmen from an unsuccessful hunt when a deer, revealing to be a faerie princess appears to him and takes him to her father, the Faerie King. The King begs Oisin to travel to Squalor Web Castle and defeat the evil Shadow who threatens Faerie Land. Oisin and his faerie helper Puck travel to the castle, encountering hags and goblins. They also save a Kobald from evil Trows. Eventually the three arrive at the lake, beyond which sits the castle. After meeting an Irish faerie who attempts to dissuade them from their mission, they arrive at the castle. Avoiding Red Caps, the Shadow's evil soldiers, Oisin makes his way to the tallest tower, defeats the Shadow, and returns to Faerie Land for a celebration before returning to his companions.

To get them out of his mind, Scooby and the gang head to a beach in Florida, where Daphne's uncle Sandy owns a hotel, only to find that it is being haunted by a shape-shifting sea monster that is stealing jewelry. During their first encounter with it, Fred tries to use a net, but to no avail. Daphne tries to help Fred with his net problem by getting him to relax in an area without nets, which is difficult, since the lobby and beach have nets all over the place.
