Synopsis
Elmer Butts quitte sa petite ville de l'Arizona pour New York où il s'est inscrit au radio-crochet du colonel Crow. Il commence par arriver en retard lors de l'enregistrement de l'émission, ce qui lui laisse une semaine pour répéter dans la chambre de sa pension de famille. Mais il le fait de manière si balourde et si bruyante qu'il empêche de dormir la jeune fille du dessous, dont il est pourtant épris. Quand vient le jour de l'émission, Elmer présente un numéro de... jonglage, spécialité on ne peut moins radiophonique. Pire, Elmer, par sa maladresse, sème la zizanie parmi les musiciens et s'attire les foudres du chef d'orchestre. Sa carrière d'artiste risque d'être éphémère.Actors

Following a kidnapping and murder, a reporter believes he knows the identity of the murderer, so he asks his room mate, a newspaper boy, to confess to the crime, in order to throw the police off the actual murderer's trail – giving the reporter time to catch the murderer and claim the reward for himself. The newspaper boy is at first reluctant, but then agrees with the condition that his half of the reward be large enough to purchase a ring he wants. Having gotten himself arrested, the newspaper boy learns that his room mate's plane has crashed, killing him and leaving the newspaper boy trapped in a death sentence for a crime he did not commit.

Le chef scout Elmer Brown perd son cœur à cause de la jolie carhop qui travaille dans un restaurant avec service au volant. Son fiancé policier vient compliquer ses désirs romantiques. Lorsqu'il essaie d'éliminer Elmer en lui donnant des contraventions pour chaque infraction imaginable, la jeune fille a pitié du martyr Elmer et ils s'en vont ensemble. Elle l'informe qu'elle repousse également un autre prétendant, Oscar ; et pour aggraver les choses, son père soutient le flic tandis que sa mère fait la promotion d'Oscar. Le personnage principal, un homme plutôt fin (joué par Buster Keaton), se marie sur un quiproquo avec une Irlandaise imposante : la femme, voulant accuser à tort le protagoniste d'avoir brisé une vitre, le porte devant l'autel pour réparer les torts et demander justice. L'interlocuteur des deux personnages ne maîtrisant que la langue polonaise, il les marie. Se succèdent alors plusieurs scènes comiques naissant du fossé des mœurs qui sépare le mari de sa belle-famille. Lorsque les frères de la mariée pensent avoir découvert que le personnage principal est un riche héritier, leur attitude change du tout au tout et ils couvrent d'attentions le nouveau membre de la famille. Seulement, après avoir déménagé dans un gigantesque penthouse, il s'avère que le personnage de Buster Keaton ne dispose d'aucune ressource financière. Le film atteint son point culminant dans une sauvage et mouvementée course-poursuite qui se termine par la fuite du jeune marié dans un train à destination de Reno.
