Jackie, a former child star, catches the eye of an infamous, womanizing teacher, Catherine (McAtee), when Jackie goes to college. Catherine and Jackie begin a scandalous affair that draws Jackie away from the college social life. Catherine and Jackie grow closer as they help each other discover more about themselves, when suddenly Jackie gets the chance to go back into her acting days. Catherine becomes uncomfortable with their situation, seeing how it could seemingly never work out, with Jackie having to constantly visit Catherine under the guise of her just being a "friend", as it would be hazardous for both of them for their relationship to get out. Catherine attempts to distance herself from Jackie by trying to declare they were never in a formal relationship, and that Jackie is not worth it in Catherine's eyes, while Jackie claims Catherine is worth it. The next day Jackie shows up at Catherine's doorstep beat up after defending Catherine's reputation. Catherine sees paparazzi taking pictures and quickly drags Jackie into the house. While taking care of Jackie, Jackie notices Catherine is wearing a dress. When questioned about it, she reveals she is attending a party, Jackie asks if she is going alone, Catherine says no but will not reveal her date, and will not let Jackie replace her date, claiming she would just be attention starved; Jackie offends Catherine by insulting her for not being financed by her own means. Jackie stays on the couch at Catherine's when Catherine returns from the party, acting passive-aggressive towards Jackie, she brings her date, a male closer to her age, into her room, causing Jackie to leave. Jackie goes to a party and hangs out with friends. After leaving for LA to set up for the release of a new show Jackie's been cast in, Catherine loses her job due to her relationship with Jackie being partially exposed. Months later Jackie and Catherine are shown sleeping together one last time. Saying their goodbyes, Jackie leaves the next day for her new role.

A Miami area high school guidance counselor, Sam Lombardo (Dillon), is accused of rape by two female students, the wealthy and popular Kelly Van Ryan (Richards) and poor outcast Suzie Toller (Campbell), and hires lawyer Kenneth Bowden (Murray) to defend him. At trial, Suzie admits that she and Kelly had made everything up to get revenge on Lombardo: Suzie for him failing to bail her out of jail on a minor drug charge and Kelly for him having an affair with her mother, Sandra. Kelly's mother is humiliated by the scandal, and Lombardo and Bowden negotiate an $8.5 million settlement for defamation. In reality, however, Lombardo and the two girls were accomplices who used the trial as a way to get money from Kelly's wealthy family. To celebrate their success, the three of them have sex.

The film tells the story of Sissy Hankshaw, a woman born with a mutation (she would not call it a defect) giving her enormously large thumbs. The film is a transgressive romp, covering topics from homosexuality and free love to drug use and political rebellion to animal rights and body odor and religions. Sissy makes the most of her thumbs by becoming a hitchhiker. Her travels take her to New York, where she becomes a model for a transvestite feminine hygiene products mogul, known as The Countess, who introduces her to the man whom she will marry, an asthmatic, staid Mohawk named Julian Gitche. In her later travels, she encounters, among many others, a sexually open cowgirl named Bonanza Jellybean and an itinerant escapee from the Japanese internment camps happily mislabeled "The Chink".

The plot is concerned with six teenagers, four of whom are gay men, the other two a "traditional" lesbian couple. The plot is spliced with segments of other material and occasional tangents not central to the plot, but it mainly follows a linear structure. Araki has constructed the film in 15 parts, which is described in the opening titles., 1h34
