It was shot in Sochi, Baku, Poświętne and Łódź, among other places.
The film was divided into three parts:
Część I: Ucieczka (Part I: The escape)
Część II: Za bronią (Part II: Following the arms)
Część III: Wśród swoich (Part III: Among friends)
Originally black and white, it was digitally colorized in 2000 by the Hollywood company Dynacs Digital Studios, as requested by the Studio Filmowe "Oko" and TV Polsat.
The movie tells the story of a Polish soldier Franciszek Dolas, who - as a result of comical coincidences - is convinced that he started the Second World War. Trying to redeem himself at all costs, he constantly gets into new trouble. In doing so, he finds himself on different war fronts (Yugoslavia, Mediterranean Sea, Near East, Italy) and eventually returns to Poland.
Synopsis
À la suite de coïncidences comiques, un soldat polonais, Franciszek Dolas, est convaincu d'être à l'origine de la Seconde Guerre mondiale. En essayant de se racheter à tout prix, il accumule de nouveaux ennuis. During World War II the British army is attempting to retrieve an Enigma machine from Germany. Having failed in previous attempts they decide to send four men undercover to the factory that makes the devices, deep in Berlin. Unfortunately the factory is populated entirely by women, and they only have men to send. American O'Rourke (LeBlanc), British transvestite Tony Parker (Izzard), genius Johnno (David Birkin) and the reluctant Archie (James Cosmo) are sent to infiltrate the factory dressed as women.

Western & Atlantic Railroad train engineer Johnnie Gray (Keaton) is in Marietta, Georgia to see one of the two loves of his life, his fiancee Annabelle Lee (Marion Mack)—the other being his locomotive, The General—when the American Civil War breaks out. He hurries to be first in line to sign up with the Confederate Army, but is rejected because he is too valuable in his present job; unfortunately, Johnnie is not told this reason and is forcibly ejected from the office when he tries to enlist surreptitiously. On leaving, he runs into Annabelle's father and brother, who beckon to him to join them in line, but he sadly walks away, giving them the impression that he does not want to enlist. Annabelle coldly informs Johnnie that she will not speak to him again until he is in uniform.

It is 1813. The First Battalion of the South Essex Regiment has suffered terrible losses in the fighting in Spain and the entire regiment is in danger of being disbanded as a result. Major Sharpe (Sean Bean) and Sergeant Major Harper (Daragh O'Malley) are sent back to England to find out why replacements have not been sent. Sharpe is told that the Second Battalion of the South Essex is drawing pay for over 700 soldiers, but when he arrives at the Second Battalion's barracks, he finds only eleven men, even though there is regular recruiting for the regiment. Sharpe senses something is amiss and is determined to get to the bottom of things.

The film is inspired by the Haditha killings incident that occurred three months after the Battle of Haditha in the Iraq War. On 19 November 2005, 24 unarmed Iraqi men, women and children were killed following an incident where an I.E.D killed one marine and seriously wounded two others and were killed by a group of United States Marines in Haditha, a city in the western Iraq province of Al Anbar. Since the release of the film, however, the US military justice controversially dropped all charges to all Marines involved. The names of the involved parties have been changed in the film.
