The plot concerns Susan Darell (Joan Fontaine), an actress from New York, who is about to be married, even though they have only known each other for a few weeks. Complications set in when her fiancé Richard Aiken (Walter Abel) gives a party to celebrate. He discovers that Susan has had three previous boyfriends when he sees their pictures in her living room.
