The film follows Four Australians, Frank (Gary Sweet), Scotty (Jon Blake) an Irish-Australian, Chiller (Tim McKenzie) and Tas (John Walton) in Palestine in 1917, part of the 4th Light Horse Brigade of the British and Commonwealth Dominion forces. When Frank is wounded and dies of his wounds, he is replaced by Dave (Peter Phelps). Dave finds himself unable to fire his weapon in combat and is transferred to the Medical Corps, where he will not need to carry a weapon, but where he will still be exposed to the fighting.

Kate Adamson (Linda Evans) is a struggling single mother from Los Angeles. She meets and falls in love with Australian cattle station owner Tom Hannon (Tony Bonner) who is visiting America on business. The couple marry after a whirlwind two week courtship. Tom leaves for Australia and Kate agrees to follow a week later. Her two children Tina and Marty are unenthusiastic about the move but are convinced by their mother to come along.

Two IRA hitmen are pursuing Riley (Michael Aitkens), because he killed one of their number. Riley is pursuing Eve (Carmen Duncan), a German former terrorist, who is on the run in Australia with her teenage daughter Chrissie (Annie Jones) and the proceeds of an old bank robbery in Germany. The two IRA hitmen, accompanied by an angry biker, track Eve and Chrissie to the Barossa Valley. Riley arrives on the scene in time for an explosive finale.
