The film starts with Unni (Dileep), who hails from a royal family, returning from prison. He had killed the son of a large family who are now searching for him. Unni's parents take him to Chennai and enroll him in a law college. There he meets Meenakshi (Rambha) who falls in love with him. Unni had a feud with Meera's brother's gang at the college. As always, Unni wins. So they send a "killer" to break his arms, who runs away on seeing Unni. Meera falls in love with him. Unni saves Meera her brother and they become friends. Then it happens that her family members are all politicians. Soon they become family friends and they fix the marriage between Unni and Meera.Unni then narrates his flashback to Meera.

Ponnu (Kavya Madhavan) is a typical self-made village girl. She has survived odds after her father’s murder when she was just a child. A vivacious girl with a mind of her own, she does everything under the sun—from rearing goats, milking cows to gathering firewood and cow dung in order to repay her father’s debts. So he fills the surroundings with stereotypes: There is a villainous Tamil moneylender Pandi (Kalabhavan Mani), a deceptive father figure (Murali) and film-crazy lover-boy Benny (Sunil Kumar alias Narain). Pandi has an eye on Ponnu. He employs the age-old tactic of moneylenders and a debt trap to get her. He is assisted in this by Vijayaraghavan (Ponnu’s father’s buddy). Benny comes to her rescue and kills Pandi’s brother after a languorous fist fight just before the interval. After that, everything goes haywire. The focus shift to the jail, where lover-boy is undergoing rigorous imprisonment for six years on charges of murder. He suffered several atrocities at the hands of jail warden. His cellmates are hardcore criminals and he has to fight injustices there.

The film begins when Gopika (Kavya Madhavan) and her father(Oduvil Unnikrishnan) came to stay in a house where Bharathiyamma(Kaviyoor Ponnamma) stays with her two children Balu Damodar (Indrajith) and Ambili(Suja Karthika). Bharathiyamma has one more son Unni Damodar(Dileep) who is working in Dubai. Unni tells his family that he is working in Gulf but in reality he runs illegal spirit business with Bhai (Murali) along with Achayan and Achuvettan in Walayar. He accepts a four-year jail punishment actually the accused was Bhai. Unni, however confesses what he does, to Gopika whom his mother is insistent that he should marry. After leaving the jail Paramasivam(Unni) realizes that Bhai has been fall into a big debt because of the cheating of Chinnadan (Kalasala Babu) and his Sons. He then again goes to valayar and thus saves Bhai and his family from debt with his wicked mind and tricks. He again rules spirit deals in Valayar area pulling the Chinnadans into trouble. Things change when Unni's brother (Indrajith) becomes a police officer. He got posting in Valayar area, where Unni and Bhai have become big-time rowdys. In Valayar, Balu tries his level best to catch Valayar Paramasivam (Dileep) but does not know that it is his brother; and fails in mind game played by Dileep. This makes Bhai angry with Balu. But Paramasivam tells him to forgive Balu because he was his brother. In the meantime, Chinadan kills Bhai's only son Johny and blames Balu as the real killer. This made Bhai very desperate and wants to kill Balu. Bhai kidnaps him. On knowing this, Paramasivam goes to save his brother Balu and informs Bhai that the actual killer was CI (Shammi Thilakan) by identifying the ring marks in Johny's face. Paramasivam then confesses him that he will not lie to his bhai.

Raghavan Master (Sreeraman), a scion of a high Adiga Brahmin family and an ardent communist, is now in crisis as his Tharavadu is devoid of the fame and fortune it once had. Balachandran Adiga is his only son, who has the burden of looking after his family and his four nubile daughters. Notwithstanding the family chaos, Balachandran's younger sister Shubha walks out with Adivasi leader Sreedharan on the day of Balachandran’s marriage, causing irreparable damage to the family reputation, following which his mother dies. Sumithra finally marries a cruel and corrupt police officer who is always doubtful on the character of his wife.
