Notte italiana (internationally released as Italian Night) is a 1987 Italian comedy drama film directed by Carlo Mazzacurati. It won several awards including the Grand Prix at the Annecy Film Festival, the Nastro d'Argento for Best New Director and the Globo d'oro for Best Actor (to Marco Messeri).

Synopsis

L'avocat italien Otello Morsiani (Marco Messeri) s'installe dans le delta du Pô. Séduit par le lieu et ses habitants, il sympathise avec Italo (Remo Remotti ) et se lie d'amitié avec sa fille, Daria (Giulia Boschi). Mais il découvre par le biais de son travail des secrets qu'il n'aurait jamais du connaître.

In a small village in Umbria, the film director Gianni is in deep creative crisis. He lives like a bum, no longer an idea to create a movie when its problems if there is another bigger than all the others. Mastro Geppetto is a poor carpenter with no wife and no children. But the temptations of life are many, and Pinocchio runs away from home, not going to school, like his father Geppetto wants, and he enters illegally in the company of puppets of the cruel Mangiafoco. Pinocchio, helped by the Fairy, tries to be kind and respectful, but by his brat character, he always brings himself in the midst of trouble.
